We're going through 2009 well for a month now. Now I'm not really up-to-date on what's going on on Sony and Microsoft's parts, as I'm mainly a Nintendo gamer, but as I saw it, 2008 wasn't that bad of a year for games, but of course it wasn't long as good as 2007.
We all probably know there's an economic crisis going on in the world, but most of us probably don't notice it in the games department, for the most part.
But that's not what this topic is meant for. My intentions for this thread are to talk about what 2009 has in store for us. How many good games will there be? Will they live up to our expectations? Or will they simply disappoint us? Which company will have the best games? You answer those questions yourself.
What I want you to do is, make a list of games that you are looking forward to, and give the reason to why you are looking forward to those. You can also give a brief summery about the game, but it's not a must.
Of course I'll begin with a list. And as I'm primarily a Nintendo gamer, my list will mostly contain Nintendo games.
MadWorld (Wii)
Madworld is a pretty odd game. With it's black-and-white visuals, with the only real colors being the red from all the blood that will be flowing on your screen, this game is doing pretty much the opposite of what most Wii games are. In a world gone literally mad, you get to play as a not-so-friendly guy named Jack. Armed with a chainsaw, Jack steps out into the world to become the best murdered out there. Because that's what this game is: A competition to see who is the best killer. Now the chainsaw is probably the nicest way to kill your opponents, as you can use pretty much everything in your environment to demolish every life in your screen. See a street sign? Jam it through their heads! See a garbage can somewhere? Toss it over the head of someone a few times, beat 'em up, and throw them on a spike bed. The choice is yours.
To me, this is a game the Wii is really calling out for. Because, let's face it, the Wii is seriously lacking quality games. And just because this game is so different from most other Wii games, this is one of the games I'm really looking forward to. Which probably would have been a different story, if it weren't for Nintendo's own empty schedule.
Sonic & the Black Night (Wii)
Sonic with a sword? Has Sega lost their mind?
Who knows. All we can really do is wait and see. But Sega knows that Sonic spins well on the Wii, which is the reason we get this sequel to the Secret Rings (which I personally didn't like, by the way). In this new Sonic adventure, the hedgehog has to take on Arthur, better knows as the Black Knight. Of course, Sonic has a sword in hand this time, and with that, he has to go through all kinds of middle-age levels to break the spell Arthur is on.
Due to the Secret Rings messing up as badly as it did for me, I'm not really looking forward to this. But deep down inside, I'm really hoping Sega will be able to make Sonic shine in at least one more 3D game. Because he does have the potential for great 3D games, in my eyes.
The Conduit (Wii)
The dark story behind The Conduit takes place in Washington D.C., which is taken over by an alien invasion. An organisation called ''The Trust'' has hired Mr. Ford to take on the alien race called ''The Drudge''. Armed with different modern weapons you take on these terrifying creatures, and you will be provided with information through ''the all-seeing eye''. In this first-person shooter you end up in a labyrinth of conspiricies, suspective government activities and of course, the creatures from outer space.
Now I some of you know I'm really not into first-person shooters. And this game probably wouldn't do a lot for me either, if I'd play it. But this does seem to be one of the better games for the Wii, both gameplay wise and graphic-wise. So I really think this game deserves more attention, because it shows the Wii can do more than what most games have shown so far. If you have a Wii, and love (or at least like) FPS games, keep an eye out for this one!
Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (DS)
It's still not really clear what this story is about. But, as it seems, Mario and Luigi will have to travel through the Mushroom Kingdom once again, this time to find an antidote for a so-called ''Metakoro'' desease, which seems to make those infected with it to swell up to really large sizes. They probably also have to find what even causes this desease. And this time, Bowser seems to does his share of fighting too, the first time in a true Mario RPG game since Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars on the SNES (not counting semi-RPG Super Paper Mario).
The Mario & Luigi series went off to a good start back when Superstar Saga was released. But it went a bit downhill with Partners in Time, which, although still enjoyable, lacked a big overworld and lots of the humor the original brought. With this 3rd part, I am hoping Nintendo will bring back what part 2 missed, and add more fun stuff into the mix. This also seems to be one of the only more ''hardcore'' titles Nintendo is having in development right now, from the ones that are known at least, which is a good reason I'm looking forward to this one.
Now I might update my list later, but for now, this is all. What are all your thoughts on these games, and what are you looking forward to yourselves? You can name any platform- not just Nintendo. Xbox 360, PS3, whatever, just name whatever you want.
