I woke up at 1:30 AM, so this is to pass the time 'til dawn, I guess, plus maybe get some interesting stories. This is mainly for the character who you might have created based upon your personality or what have you, but feel free to include any other characters.
As for me, it all started with Toshi who began as just a typical, light blue Yoshi. I took the first two letters in my simplified name (Tom) and, well, the rest is pretty obvious, don't you think? Anyway, I suppose I made him with Yoshi's Story in mind, since that was my inspiration. I suppose I was trying to expand upon the stories of the Yoshis in that game. So, he was the eldest of four brothers (Trenshi, the yellow, Boshi, the blue, Yoshi, the green, and Donshi, the red, all in order of age) and sister (Chishi, the pink, younger than Boshi). Then there were the white and black Yoshis, Garden and Shadow, respectively, but I'd rather like to focus on Toshi's development, so I won't go into theirs.
As they developed, I made all sorts of modifications to them to make them seem more unique in character (I think that was unnecessary now, but it seemed like a good idea at the time). These were inspired by all the Yoshi art I found on the internet which I was recently introduced to. They also became anthropomorphic because I felt more comfortable drawing them that way at the time. Focusing on Toshi, he got some scars (I was obsessed with Ruroni Kenshin, or however it's spelled, at the time), hair, and a Link outfit. I've always been interested in classical elements, so I gave one to each of them, and Toshi's was ice. Several years later (sometime after joining Yoshi's Corner), I made "higher" elements, and Toshi's and Yoshi's were storm. After a while, his outfit changed to something more simple, because I grew tired of drawing the Link tunic and wanted to seem more original, so he got a white tanktop over a black, long-sleeved undershirt, and blue jeans. The scars remained, and I made a story explaining how he got them. This was sometime after my joining of Yoshi's Corner.
I think those were the last days of Toshi as an alternate ego, but I do still have plans for him. Anyway, Toshi was made into a "more original character" named Seth. Basically, he just transitioned from a Yoshi to a human of sorts, yet he retained the same personality, same attire, and same abilities of his former character. Yet, as he developed, I started focusing on the character I made out of Inviso (that's right, the boss of World 3 in Yoshi's Story) who gives Seth his scar. As I focused more and more on him, Seth began to fade until he outright disappeared. Maybe not totally, since Kaz (a character based on a Rex of the same name who was related to Toshi's story) is like him in personality. Anyway, the character I focused on was named Orca, but oddly enough, he became the main character with Kaz, and yet even perhaps more oddly, became a female character currently named Ora. And, I suppose Ora inherited the qualities of Toshi's love interest (the white Yoshi mentioned earlier) who Toshi rescued from Inviso. Although still a romance, Kaz and Ora most likely won't fall in love--they'll probably have more of a sibling relationship (who's to say, they may become siblings after all). Anyway, I think that explains why I have Yoshi to thank for this story of mine (this is the last time I'm explaining that here, I promise).
I left a whole mess of details out in Toshi's development, but there's honestly way too much to go into, and I just wanted to get out the main points. As for Toshi's role now, he and his siblings will be tied in some way to Shoe's story.
Now, as for Shoe, he hasn't been around too long, but he has gone under a considerable change or two. He used to be some crazy hybrid furry and I somehow convinced myself that he was a Yoshi. I have John to thank for showing me just how ignorant I was, even if he showed me without realizing it or meaning to (maybe he did, I haven't told him about it...I guess I am, now. Hi, John). It took me a while before Shoe became about as close to a typical Yoshi as he's going to get. I say that because Shoe's identity is a bit sketchy. He's a Yoshi, but I think he was turned into one or became one or something. I don't know, yet. All I know is that I'm aiming for Shoe to be the first apparent Yoshi who learns how to handle magic (within the Mario canon, anyway).
And, I think that's all. But, I'm really rather eager to hear everyone else's stories. I love this sort of stuff.
