Third topic within four hours. Woo.
So, this popped into my head a moment ago. Yoshi has gone through some changes over the years, and I'm wondering which change is your favorite.
Personally, I'm rather indecisive, since each design appeals to me in different ways:
Super Mario World's Yoshis seem a bit less appealing to me than the later versions (perhaps because they seem to me closer to an animal than a human in nature), but the infant Yoshis of that game always melted my heart.
Yoshi's Island's Yoshis certainly seemed more colorful, both literally and figuratively. They seemed more charismatic and natural in their design, and that design seemed to bond seamlessly with that of the gameworld's. It seems like a step-up from Super Mario World's design, but that's just assumed according to my own observations.
Yoshi's Story's Yoshis I find I can relate to most, I suppose because they seem closest in nature to humans. Their design also seems more simplistic to me, which makes it all the more easier to understand. Plus, Yoshis of this design seem their cutest.
As for unofficial designs (and forgive my critique):
I find Coral's nonanthropomorphic design very appealing. Of the three mentioned above, it most reminds me of Yoshi's Island's design, yet with her own charm added to it. Her expressions and anatomy seem well structured and her Yoshis are just so irresistably adorable.
And there's Toshi's which seem to bond very well with comic format. From the memory of the last time I saw it, out of the official designs, his seems most like the Yoshi's Story design, yet the expressions seem more flexible, and I find myself laughing at those every time.
And that's it for my opinion.

I was always a sucker for Yoshi's Story, so that's where my vote goes.

SMW2: YOSHI'S ISLAND!! - 4 spikes, two on the back of their head, two on the back of their neck.
- An oblong circular saddle that rounds about the side of their backs.
- Arms at about halfway or higher between the chin and their thigh, located closely behind the white of their chest.
- A tail that juts out slightly upward above the saddle with the white underside not quite reaching all the way to the rounded tip.
- The height of their boots almost never overlaps the bottom of their belly.
Best. Style. Ever. (Also, you should add the Paper Mario style on that list!)

And, actually, I did at first, but I put it next to the Yoshi's Island option. Looking at a picture, now, though, I do see some considerable differences between the styles...I guess my memory of the two got smudged up a bit. Unfortunately, it seems I can't edit the poll itself...

SMWII: Yoshi's Island has my vote! It was close between this and Yoshi's Story, but I never really favored the look that the yoshi's had in Yoshi's Story when I first played it, so Yoshi's Island it is!

I forgot to mention, I also liked how the Yoshis of Super Mario World obtained a different ability when holding a Koopa Shell of a certain color. I suppose that's what they're doing with Super Mario Galaxy 2, what with Yoshi eating a certain something and gaining a new power. Huh, I never actually thought of it that way until now... I wonder if they'll do that for New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

I'll have to go with the Yoshi's Island style. It's a really cool design and in my opinion is the most 'Yoshi' of all styles. I am quite a fan of some of the styles created by fellow members of YC and dA, though. I really don't like Yoshi's Story design as much, however. I find it too blocky and fat looking.

Hm.. I wouldn't know. Everything from Super Mario World II and up were adorable.
I did like the Paper Mario style now that I think about it.. I'unno if that beats out SMWII though. So I'll stick with undecided.

Out of everything I still really like the designs from Yoshi's Island, and the sprites more than anything. How they managed to cram so much character into those pixels is utterly beyond me. And yet somehow, with far more horsepower for the system Yoshi's Island 2 managed to suck all the charm out of the game. And add in more screaming.
Never was a fan of the Yoshi's Story style though, everything looks really chunky looking.

I would have to agree that the Yoshi's Island yoshi design was very well made, and captured him phenomenally. However, my vote has to go to the Paper Mario design, for it just seemed so perfect in my opinion. I don't know what it was about it, but, it captured my heart. the design had an essence of joy, spunk, and being care-free, which is how I see yoshi much of the time.

Mh, difficult... Well, i would say i stick to the current Yoshi style. But i also like it a bit old school, so a perfect appearence would be a mixture. I did that with my Yoshi character, his appearance is like the current Yoshi, but he has 4 spiks like the "old school" Yoshi. EDIT: Ouh, and that saddle must be banned! How dare you to ride on a Yoshi!

Super Mario World! They looked cooler to me, haha. More dinosaur like, and the saddle made more sense that way! Now it looks awkwerd for Yoshi to carry a person, at least to me.

Yeah, I'm not sure I like the modern saddle too much. It looks like a shell. And, this is probably just personl preference, but I don't think it was fair to give the orange yoshi blue shoes, since the red one already had them: www.mariowiki.com/images/c/c4/TheYoshiFamily.jpgIn my opinion, I think they should have given it black shoes, because that's the only shoe color left. Oh, well, they'll always be black to me. You know, honestly, I was just trying to be fair, but I really do think Yoshi's Island's style is my favorite. How I miss it... And has anyone else ever noticed that the Yoshi model from Melee looks closest to that style? I'm sure they have.

I have been a great fan of Yoshi's Island since I got it 2 Christmas' ago. So, there's my vote. And, as Teh Yoshi said, [glow=blue,2,300]Best. Design. Ever.[/glow]
So, yea...

Seriously? Am I the only one who actually likes the modern saddle? Call it a shell all you want, it still doesn't change my opinion. To be honest, my favorite design is the one that Shoe just linked to ( www.mariowiki.com/images/c/c4/TheYoshiFamily.jpg). It basically combines the charm of the old style with the streamlined compactness of the new one. As great at the older Yoshi's Island style might be, its look is rather dated compared to today's standards. Out of all the designs, I'd say the one I like the least would have to be the one from Super Mario World. Its long neck is simply hideous in my opinion. Also, I really don't mind that Orange has blue shoes. They look good on him, so what's the problem?
