Not really the title. Just a light-hearted poem of silliness made up by request of my uncle, Andy. It's probably not very clear though, so here you are: My family left Florida for Ohio to look for some beach or something, and my uncle thought it was silly since they could have gone to one of our beaches. Most of everything else in the "story" of this poem is a result of improv, and it's by no means meant to be taken seriously. But, critique away, I don't care.
There once were some folks
Who traveled afar.
They drove many hours
In their little red car.
They left their green shores
To drive many miles,
And for most of the time
They had on wide smiles.
But, why were they searching
For waters up there?
It sure beats me!
When they've got 'em right here!
And sure as I say,
The grass wasn't greener,
So, they began to get grumpy;
They took a demeanor.
They looked and they looked
Yet, they discovered no beaches
But, then came their savior,
A man selling peaches!
“Don't fret and don't grumble!”
Said the fruit selling guy,
“I know where to go!
“And it's price isn't high!”
“Oh, tell us, oh, please!”
Said the family with passion
“Tell us where, now,
“And we'll go in quick fashion!”
“Just over yonder,
“A skip and a hop!
“In that big plaza,
“With all the neat shops!”
And so they took leave
Trusting his words
But what they discovered
Made them all feel like turds
The water was freezing;
As cold as could be!
And the place was unnatural
A pool, not a sea!
“Why did we leave?!”
They cried in despair
“We could have went golfing!
“Or even the fair!”
And so, that's the end,
They came on back here
And enjoyed what they had
And kept it most dear.
