The thing I think I love most about Team ICO's games is that they always use the in-game engine for everything, even "cinematics". I think the same can also be said for Zelda games.
Anyway, as much of a fan I am for Team ICO's games, I'm rather surprised at myself that I didn't hear about this sooner. I guess I've been too caught up in Nintendo's releases to worry about anything else (especially since the chances of me getting any other next-gen consoles is next to nothing). But, here's the trailer: ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/14230646/ico-project/videos/thelastguardian_trl_trailer_60209.html
From what I've gathered from the video and from Wikipedia, the giant creature is an erne, or sea eagle, named Trico. Apparently it's name is a mix of different japanese words, but it's also a pun on the game itself, being the third one they've made (the tentative title for the game in Shadow of the Colossus' early development was Nico; ni apparently means "two" in japanese, plus the name of the first title itself "Ico").
It seems they want to expand upon the interaction of an animal, like Wander and Agro in Shadow of the Colossus. They're aiming to make Trico as natural as their engine will allow, and the player must take advantage of that in solving puzzles. For example, in order to get Trico to go to a certain spot, the player must throw something that catches its attention, and Trico naturally wants to follow the character, so the player has to figure out how to make him stay still when needed. The player can also remove spears and arrows and whatever else Trico gets lodged in his flesh. Oh, and Ueda (the creator) claims that within the physics engine, the effect of wind is modeled separately for each of the creature's feathers.
It looks pretty, as their other games did, and although the whole ancient ruined atmosphere reminds me of their first game, I was expecting another open world environment. But, who knows, I might be in for a surprise (given I get the chance to play it anytime soon). I just hope the graphics don't interfere with the game and make the animations choppy or laggy like they often did in their previous game. Anyway, that's all the info I have, or can remember for now.
