Virtually everywhere I turn, Professor Layton (and the Diabolical Box) turns up, so I finally gave in and looked the game up. It looks and sounds spectacular. In fact, I was almost bought by the music alone, I'm even listening to the soundtrack via YouTube. It hasn't a single instrument that is unappealing to me. I love the extensive use of the accordion~ ...anyway, I'll just cut to it, then. I've never really heard about these games before, maybe I've seen a flyer or two, but only gave them a passing glance. To anyone who has played these fine looking games, would you recommend them? I love riddles and puzzles, but I'm wondering if they're worth it, both by quantity and quality. And what of the plot? How is it? (No plot or gameplay spoilers, please)

Yeah, at one point I was this close to buying it, but then, well, it just didn't happen. I want to buy it sometime, though. It looks awesome.
(That wasn't very helpful, was it? Um, I said it looked awesome... does that count? D:)

So much that I've already fallen in love with the series before even playing the games. It looks like they're not limited to just games, too. They're about to release a[n animated] movie, although it probably won't see the western shores for some time. I'd still like to hear about how it plays, though.

Oh, -late-, but I've played it. It's very simple, but the puzzles can indeed be challenging. I'm only a couple chapters in, but the first time I tried it I couldn't put it down until I was thoroughly stumped. But then again I'm ridiculously stubborn because I don't skip puzzles, so I've stared at a puzzle for an hour before taking a break. |D
Generally, it's point and click - poke the stylus to the left to move to the left path, and so forth. You need to point and click people (normally, some puzzles are just.. hidden about in random objects) and the person will throw a puzzle at you. Now you can either get it right, get it wrong and lose points, use a hint coin scattered about the world, or walk away without any point deductions - with the exception of plot-required puzzles, which you can still walk away from, but you know you're -required- to go back.
And it's generally very cute, random little puzzles involving the stylus and a bit of thought. Some are you can just go, "Hey, the box! Look out of it!" and some are like "HINT COIN REQUIRED LAWL", but that's usually do to word play - and possibly the way I interpret things is just off or trying-too-hard and I might be the only one who doesn't get things. |D
On a random note, I loved this game just for it's intro. It was adorable and full of English accents. If more games had blatantly English settings, I might buy more games. ...I think the new one came out yesterday. I should finish the first one..
