I'm sure we've all noticed a steep decline in it around us. If not, then maybe it's just me. What's happened to manners? I'd like to say I practice good etiquette, but it sickens me that people are so surprised by this. I actually got asked why I held the door for someone. I don't know, maybe I'm just blabbing like an idiot... Your opinions, YC?

THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS BOARD.
Everyone in my Psych class giggled at me for calling my teacher, 'sir', and it almost made me feel like I was doing something wrong by being polite. It was very strange. Human beings have really started to suck lately, and personally, I blame the media. Things are either too censored and 'politically correct', or too blatantly out there. Don't feel like you have to stop using manners because the rest of the reerees have. We're a dying breed, good sir. Keep it up!

I also agree that manners are at an all-time low. I can definitely say that I am good with manners when it comes to a conversation. I make sure to ask things in the appropriate way, as well as to give recognition in the appropriate way. People tell me that my communication is especially friendly.
However, I definitely have a weakness when it comes to kitchen etiquette. I am a sloppy eater, that is for sure. My elbows always seem to find their way onto the table as well. Manners at the dinner table can definitely be improved on my part.
Yeah, the world needs to change. The majority of the people on this planet don't seem to care about anyone else.

I agree, it seems like there is less common courtesy in the world today. Gosh, especially while driving... Getting cut off by other drivers about fifty times is a daily happening for me (okay, maybe not FIFTY, but it's quite a bit). I try to be better than that, though. I actually like it when people think of me as a nice guy. I have no idea why a lot of people seem to think being rude and disrespectful is cool.

People still hold doors open for me at my college. But yeah other than there I don't see that often. What can I say, times are changing. There are new, subtle rules that aren't as "old fashioned" and "in-your-face" as the previous etiquette was. But don't worry - there are still subtle rules to follow. People are much less up-front about things these days, too, which seems to be yet another facet of how things have changed.

Everyone here in my town is nice.
China, that's a different environment. Imagine that you decide to be nice and hold a door open for someone at the supermarket. Unless you slam the door in someone's face, you'll be standing there the whole day. XD Exaggerated, but you get the idea.
