Lately there has been a good amount of new retro game releases, games that look like old 8-bit/16-bit games, but are really new games. I'm not meaning Virtual Console releases here.
In this topic, I'm going to talk mostly about ones released on Wii, since I don't know many released on Xbox360/PS3 (Except MM9/10)
The rebirth games on Wii, Gradius, Contra and Castlevania, are remakes of old games in some ways, but have so much new I consider them brand new games myself. For example, Gradius Rebirth is in a way remake of Nemesis on Game Boy, having same level set and such, but the stages are compeletely different.
All of these three are made on 16-bit graphics to look like a SNES game. I have liked Gradius and Castlevania Rebirth myself a lot, but Contra Rebirth somewhy made me go quite "Meh.". The games all have difficulties varying from very easy so even beginners can play (In Gradius Rebirth, enemies don't even shoot back on Very Easy!), to really hard retro difficulties making even exprienced players enjoy them.
Then, there are Mega Man 9 and 10. These are brand new games for the classic Mega Man series, but with the twist that they aren't 16-bit like MM7 and 8, but look just like 8-bit NES games! I LOVE these games and wish they made even more games like this, I just want NES times back. ^^;
Unlike Rebirth games, Mega Man 9 is locked to single (hard) difficulty, but Mega Man 10 has easy mode if you really can't do it. I myself completed 9, and even it was hard and took many, many tries, it felt so satisfying to see the credits. It reminded me of all those times when I was young and it took me forever to try some part in a game, but I never gave up... ^^;
They really went far to remind us of the old times. Remember when you bought Mega Man for NES, and it had those RIDICULOUS looking covers? Well, they did this for Mega Man 10...
AWESOME. ;D
Anyhow, talk about new retro games and remakes here. I'd like to know if there is any new good ones to give a go there besides these, heh. I recommend these games for everyone wishing to get those good old times back!
