"I understand your frustration, but there is little chance that we will all make it out alive if we just rush into the attack. I suggest putting that dagger away and try reasoning with them," Yoshiken whispered to Syleena. "Actually, I have an idea."
He then noticed Karth twirling his own knife, threatening the nearest bandit to him. He hoped that Karth would stick to his intimidation tactics, and not cross the line into actual combat.
Yoshiken took out his own bag of coins, of which he only had 30, instead of the 50 that was demanded. However, he didn't look bothered by this fact.
He gradually backed up a few feet, giving him space in case the bandits tried anything unexpected. He extended his arm out with the bag of coins in it. "Here is the money you asked for. Come and take it, so that I can be on my way."

"Oh no. Champ hasn't abandoned us. He's busy playing with that other guy." Syleena said.

Unfortunately for Yoshiken, when everyone else drew out their weapons the bandits did not react well. "Very well!" The Rex shouted, stepping forward and swiping his knife around. The rest of the bandits closed in on the group as well, bringing their weapons in to attack. The Birdo jumped forward at Karth- his sword was much longer than the penguin's dagger. A Shy Guy poked his extended spear at Syleena. All of the bandits save for the leader had weapons with a decent reach, and there were about three for every party member. You guys are in trouble!
Champ rolled his eyes and simply let Teal go. "Your funeral," he hissed, scooting back. "Should've just payed like normal people. But that's why you're so special, ain't it. I hate the League..." He muttered under his breath.

Upon being released Teal said to Champ, "When your allies are being attacked, you don't just run away and do nothing." He assumed Karth was being attacked by the Birdo. Teal picked up the large rock, aimed at an angle where it wouldn't hit Karth in case he missed, and then hurled the rock at the bandit in hopes of at least distracting it.
In this situation, Teal made the first attack at the bandits.
Teal saw the Shy Guy with the spear pointing at Syleena and thought about using his tongue to grab it next.

"Do not poke me with that spear!!" she knocked it out of the Shy Guy's hands.

"Fine, ye wanna slug?" Karth fully expected to be attacked at this point anyway, and quickly sidestepped the oncoming blade, moving in close - they might have weapons with reach, but they would not be so good in a very close encounter, which Karth was much more skilled at.
If the rock Teal threw was aimed high, Karth wouldn't have to worry about getting hit with it, and in fact even if it did miss, it would give the Birdo enough pause, particularly after attacking, for Karth to deliver his counter.
Karth got straight to the point with this one. After dodging the initial attack, he quickly moved in to make it that much more difficult for his enemy to attack him again and delivered a slicing strike at the leg muscle, intended to hamstring his opponent and make it (Birdos have no gender in my book!) unable to stand. Swinging the dagger in front of his body, he then brought it back again, twisting the dagger around to stab into the back of the other leg to finish the job.
"Let's slug."

Champ smiled at Teal, showing his teeth. "Yes, but they're not my allies. I don't pick fights with the locals." The Birdo ducked out of the way of the rock and smacked at Karth as if golfing before he could get too close for his first strike. The Shy Guy had much stronger arms than appeared at first, and instead of Syleena knocking the spear out of its hands it simply thrust forward at her. Teal's tongue was not nearly long enough to reach. He would have to get closer. Unfortunately, he had attracted the attention of the bandits and two more headed out his way to dispose of him. Champ had disappeared up a tree.

Karth danced right over the low point of the blade swung at him like a club, to make the Birdo duff its shot. While spinning in the air, he slashed at the backside of his target.

Teal saw the two bandits coming his way. Teal started backing up and felt a thorny branch brush against his back. Quickly coming up with an idea he backed up more into the branch cocking it back. He pretended to look as though he was frozen in fear like easy prey but when the bandits came very close he ducked and the thorny branch whipped right towards their eyes.

The Birdo's side split open like a hot knife through butter. It shrieked in pain, dropped its sword, and stumbled forward, its lifeblood quenching the thirst of the tall grass below. Pained convulsions wracked his body, and his allies furiously charged in to avenge the permanent maiming the Birdo had received all too suddenly. The two bandits chasing Teal did not fare much better. They had been expecting simple travelers and did not react quickly enough. Only one bandit, a burlier Koopa, managed to duck; the other, an unlucky Mouser, cried out in pain and fell back, grabbing at the thorns embedded in the flesh of her sensitive face. Blood spurted from between her tiny clawed fingers. Her eyes would never be the same. The Koopa swung his shortsword at Teal in desperation.
Champ observed the carnage from the safety of his tree. He hung his head and averted his eyes.

Teal saw the blade coming, he rolled sideways out of the way avoiding the attack just millimeters away from being cut. While his back rolled on the dirt he felt the scratches he had on his back from the thorny branch. He got up, grabbed the Mouser, and shoved her into the Koopa. He sprinted toward the Shy Guy that had the spear and hoped he wouldn't trip. He had the feeling that someone was chasing him since shoving that Mouser probably only bought him a few seconds of time.

Karth landed on the ground with a flourish, twirling his dagger around as he turned toward his other aggressors. "Ye fight, ye die. I'll say it again and again!" he said. As unfortunate as it seemed, this kind of brutality was not unfamiliar to him.
Seeing that they weren't in close combat range yet, he quickly thought of an idea. He would try and catch one of them by surprise, leaving the other to deal with normally. He quickly scooped up the Birdo's dropped blade, spun around and stepped forward, and hurled it as hard as he could like a throwing knife at the closest target. While it was not exactly the same as a knife, larger and more awkward to be used in such a way, it could get the job done, which was all he needed. He hoped it would be enough to strike one of them down or at least injure them and make the rest of his job easier. Such underhanded tricks were not beneath the rogue Bumpty - whatever it takes, they say...
Karth prepared to be on the defensive when they were close enough, preparing to dodge their inevitable attempt to strike at him and teach them that the best offense is not always a good defense.

Teal saw Karth spinning the blade around. Teal tripped and fell onto the ground. "Ugh!" He heard something fly over himself and then a cry of pain from behind him.
He wasn't exactly sure what happened but he ignored it. He got up and went for the Shy Guy with the spear that was attacking Syleena. He shot his tongue out grabbing the spear and pulling on it but the Shy Guy wouldn't let go of it. Teal threatened the Shy Guy in a struggling voice, "...Let go of...it...or I'll end up...eating you...too!"
This left both Teal and the Shy Guy completely open for attack.
(sorry if I'm going too fast. I'll rollback if you need me to...)

Syleena slashed at the Shy Guy then fought back at when the sword was going at her, she blocked it with her dagger. "Don't think I'm going down that easy."

(You're fine.)
Blood poured from Teal's victim's eyes, drenching the Yoshi's front in the red nectar of agony. The Koopa stopped his advance to help his friend, buying Teal the safety to go attack the Shy Guy. The two bandits were soon red, the Koopa asking a question over and over again and the Mouser mute with her pain. The sword impaled an oncoming smaller Rex through the gut and sent it reeling backwards as a new fountain of every warrior's favorite color was created. It cried out, but the cry was cut short as the Rex hit the ground and jolted the sword so carelessly wedged under his ribs. The other bandits continued their advance, hurling their own weapons at Karth with far more experience and arm strength than the old penguin could muster. The Shy Guy clung to his spear desperately as cries of "Diablo!" flew from his emotionless mask. A tinier cloaked Guy scampered over to Teal, grabbing at his tail. She pulled out a nail and dug it into the base of his spine- no more than a prick, but hopefully enough to discourage his attack. Unfortunately, she had not seen Syleena, who cut down the girl's father mercilessly. The robes the larger Shy Guy wore sagged as black smoke poured out of the wound. The father quickly released his spear and fell back, coughing and choking. The smoke provided him with cover at the very least, but he was badly injured. The heroes, however, had other things to worry about- more bandits were on the charge.

Syleena kept on slashing bandits as they came at her. "I could do this all day!" she kept her eye on Karth, ready to help him.

Karth wasn't expecting his enemy to throw their own weapons at him in kind - he quickly ducked down and made his body flatten to the ground somewhat like a pancake. A flying sword that would have impaled him in the face instead only clips his head, and another flying weapon cuts his side, though only lightly.
He straightened back up, and frowned, grimacing at his wounds, as light as they were. He didn't have time to realize any connections the bandits might have had to each other, only that these people had weapons for a reason and that it wasn't for any sort of diplomacy, given that their lack of communication skills made it impossible to try and reason.
He did note that there are a pile of weapons lying around him now and that the foes running toward him have not-so-cleverly disarmed themselves, unless they had backup weapons. Even if they did, it provided Karth with an opportunity to counter. He quickly closed the distance with a quick push off his feet, taking care not to accidentally run into a bandit on the way and slipped between two of them, whirling around on his feet on the way with an odd grace for someone without visible legs and slashed at the leg muscles of the two foes he passed simultaneously.
He was not deliberately aiming to kill his foes - his training into precision attacks made it possible for him to hamstring opponents and knock them out of a fight without killing them, though an errant turn of the body or a misjudged step at the last second could easily ruin that plan, as the Rex who was caught by the earlier thrown sword found out the hard way.
And either way... none of this was new to him. These bandits could not be intimidated into giving up initially, mostly because of the language barrier, and he had to resort to such tactics because he did not have the money on hand to pay the full toll anyway, though he wouldn't tell anybody that.
(Hey guys, I'm gonna be out for the weekend, so I won't be able to post. I am pretty sure most of it is going to consist of Karth dancing around his enemies and slashing at their legs, anyway. I'll see you all on Sunday)

Syleena continues to plow through her enemies and tries to avoid fatalities as much as she can. "This band of bandits has got to end sometime!"

Teal had blood splashed all over him which gave him a savage appearance. Teal was pulling on the spear when he was grabbed by the tail and he felt a needle dig into his spine. Since he was distracted when the large Shy Guy let go of the spear, the spear "slingshotted" back at his face hitting it and landing on the ground in front of him. Teal was disoriented for a moment.

Syleena danced around her enemies and only tried to attack if there was no other choice. "It would be good if we knew some magic."
