You know... Sometimes I want to make a game that is like one of these games. I mean I know its probably impossible, but it would be pretty fun to attempt something like that. I would love to make something that people would enjoy playing

I'm planning to make a game that I call Time Thief (tentative). It's not Yoshi related (but maybe I'll stick a cameo...if I can) its concept is based on Wario Land 4. It's a platformer and I'm aiming that it would be a popular fun game that people would remember. If you're interested there's a link in my signature and there's a program called Stencyl that I'm looking forward to its release. and hey don't say it's impossible to make something... because there's always a way.

Well, there already exists a free, open-source "game maker" program called Construct, but if you'd ask me, I would suggest going with a real programming language or a framework based around it. I use flixel, which is a framework based on AS3.
I wouldn't try making something enormous like Final Fantasy or Yoshi's Island unless you are ready to work on something for years, games like Cave Story took over five years to make by one person.

Me and my buddies are going to make a game as an Itouch application. We're doing it for money though. Yeeeeeeeah. It's just going to be a stupid puzzle game.

Make a fart app instead. I heard they are all rage on iPhone these days.

I wouldn't like to see a Yoshi's Island meets Final Fantasy type game. As someone who loved the original Insomniac developed Spyro games, it's tragic to see a character go from excellent to cringeworthy like that. They made Spyro waaaay too serious for it to be even remotely interesting, never mind fun. A fan game that takes after Yoshi's Island would be awesome though. I'm currently working on my own project which is proving to be difficult without using proprietary software, but Epic Games have helped out by making their Unreal Development Kit free to download and use: www.udk.com/For modelling I'm using Cararra and Poser 8 (both pretty expensive), but the free and open source Blender ( www.blender.org/ ) will suffice for anyone interested in getting stuck in. Both Blender and Epic have video tutorials showing how to make your way around the interfaces so the only thing stopping you is, well, you. *shrug* If you want to go in to games creation right from concept to storyboard, then from animation and development to the final thing, then this is an excellent start if you remain dedicated and are patient. Otherwise, stick to the RPGmaker route, much much easier.

...RPGMaker? I'd at least use something that doesn't revolve around a single genre. Construct is starting to look good, though it's a bit unstable in places right now.

Yeah, but they did say Yoshi's Island/Final Fantasy, and that was the first of the easy buttons I thought of. *shrug*

Well, yeah, that'd be nice. I've had the same thought before. If you'll do it just for the fun of attempting, go for it. Make a fart app instead. I heard they are all rage on iPhone these days. Sadly, you couldn't be more right. There's also the "push the button" games where you... push a button. And sometimes, something happens, but it's nothing interesting.
