Today marks the 15th anniversary of the North American release of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. ;D As you all can see, I'm a huge fan of the game more than, well, almost anything. What are your guys' thoughts on this? How has this game touched you? What do you love most or remember most about it?

This game is the one that really got me to like Yoshi. It was a lot of fun to play and its unique graphics were a good eye candy. My only complaint about this game is the loud crying sound Baby Mario makes when you get hit and you have to get him back but that was put in there to force you to retrieve him as fast as possible. The story was great, the final boss was epic, the controls were easy. It's a platformer with a bit of puzzle elements mixed in. Even after beating the main game it's far from over. Next you play it a different way trying to get a score of 100 on each level. Find and keep as many stars as you can, find the red coins hidden in the yellow ones, and find the big red flowers. I remember the frustration I went though trying to avoid getting damaged losing stars during those boss fights since you can't use items. Believe it or not one day at my high school during lunch they played the soundtrack from this game.
I think if this game were never released Yoshi would be known as just a power up and not an actual character. It's a perfect little game. To think this game came out 15 years ago...wow.

But that's the point, isn't it? Fifteen years, wow. Well, come to think of it, there are even some thirty-year old games, and SMB's 30th is coming up soon as well.

Fifteen years, wow. Well, come to think of it, there are even some thirty-year old games, and SMB's 30th is coming up soon as well. According to some sources that is correct, though it's not SUPER Mario Brothers that is hitting its 30th, it's just Mario in general. Here in the UK it has been falsely advertised as we are being shown adverts for Mario's 25th Anniversary when it technically isn't correct, he's older. It's a popular, but little known fact that his first ever appearance was in 1981 as "Jumpman" in the Donkey Kong arcade game, which later he was known as Mario. I reckon that still counts as an appearance for Mario. I'm surprised that it's been falsely broadcast but I assume they're going by the SUPER Mario Brothers game which was released in late 1985 along with the fact it's sold over 40 million copies, which sorta makes sense. As for SMW2: Yoshi's Island, 15 years eh? I was 8 years old when that came out. 8 years old. It's freakin' unbelievable, still looks as wonderful back then as it does now.

Yoshi's Island is a beautiful game. I replayed it over the summer, and it was amazing how many memories it brought back. ^^ I used to play it at my grandparents' house when I was around 5 or 6. Good times. ^^
