"That sounds good for me. Just as long as we can do this without become petrified either. I assume everybody here actually IS petrified and not partially and zombies?" Maya said. She was kinda sad she didn't see any cowboy Yoshi statues around.

(I guess just do whatever you think is best.)
Hansen ran over to the the statues, and immediately took out his magnifying glass. He began to observe the facial expressions, moving from the head downwards. He finish by analyzing any footsteps on the ground. He would follow them, stop, write down some information in a small notebook that he carried in his coat, and then move on to some other investigative measure.
"Hmm, interesting. Judging by the traces of footsteps on the ground, and the ratio of people running to the cave to people running away from the cave suggests that they were all planning on going to the cave in the first place, until those at the front of the stampede found something even worse inside the cave, and decided it best to run back. This petrification must have happened right after that transition, which leads me to conclude that the petrification must have happened fairly quickly."
Hansen looked back at the group and smiled. "However, this is just a simple observation. I am working on little evidence, and there is a good chance that I am incorrect. I am sure this cave will lead us closer to the truth, so lets not waste any more time in getting inside."

"Since that this seems to be an old western town, do you think that there might be petrified cowboys somewhere?" Maya asked. "I really want to meet a real life cowboy one of these days." Maya said trying to brighten everybody's spirits.

Ignuss followed the group stumbling here and there mumbling under his breath, "Ninjo, if only you were here. Your magic would surely aid us. Maybe if a cure was found I could revive you. Yes That's what I'll do, I'll revive the studio. I just need the cure." then in a louder voice he said, "Hey, could a certain white magic spell remove the petrification? I know a white sage who never seems to be petrified no matter what happens."

"Well I am guessing that it depends how far advanced the petrification is and if the magic will be strong enough. So far, all I have seen is that the petrification seems to be resistant to a lot of the things that we have seen so far. I do believe the only way to make the petrification reverse is if we can find a way to stop the magic. Anything else might only be a temporary cure."

Firago: "I wouldn't doubt we would find any cowboys. This place is called Old Town now because the people here refuse to modernize things. Ah well it was kind of interesting to set foot in here to take a break from technology and whatnot."
Firago heard Ignuss' statement, "Well it's all a matter of bad luck with this virus. Unfortunately when a curative magic spell is cast in an attempt remove the petrification it doesn't work well. Sometimes it will cure them but only for an extremely short time and then they would turn to stone again. Similar to what happened when Erlosung tried that experimental antidote back in Oyster Harbor. There is not a single case of magic curing this virus completely and permanently. It is also said that this virus is powerful enough to cause the magic to backfire and it somehow turns the sage into stone. This is one of the reasons why the virus is such a threat. It's not easy to cure anyone from this virus in any way."
Inside the mine the ground showed evidence of water runoff. Firago brought out a flashlight. A couple shy guy and yoshi miners appeared to have petrified while working with their pickaxes raised up. Their faces showed no terror as if they didn't even know if something happened. In only about 50 feet into the mine there was a puddle of liquid that looked like water and a cave-in on the other side. It looked impossible to continue. Firago was about to step into the water but stopped and looked down closer to it. The surrounding area especially the ground looked grossly corroded by chemical. "Hmm...there might be some kind of secret entrance in here somewhere."

"What is it Firago? Is there something that you see in the puddle of water?" Maya asked. She took a step forward and looked around the cave. "You think there might be a secret entrance because of the chemical?"

"This substance here, I don't think it's natural so this starts to confirm the suspicions about this place." Firago opened his wings and carefully flew over across the large room-wide puddle to get a closer look at the cave-in."

"Do you see anything suspicious over there Firago? If you find something there, maybe it might help us with this. Just be careful." Maya said. She dipped her glaive into the puddle.

Her glaive violently emitted smoke when it contacted the chemical puddle. Firago saw what happened and realized what chemical the puddle is. He appeared to be scared of the puddle now since he's flying right over it. "Eyah! I'm coming back heck no I'm not gonna risk falling in that!" He immediately flew back to solid ground.

"Why? What element is it?" Maya asked as she brought her glaive back to her. "I assume that it is something that is very corrosive?"

Erlosung just kept quiet as they all went into the cave. Seeing Firago has a flashlight to light the cave, for now Erlosung decided to conserve his resources. He just looked at all the petrified victims, but he makes no apparent reaction. Soon he stopped as he saw a large puddle of a chemical. He saw Maya dip her glaive into the puddle, only to violently emit smoke.
Erlosung then decided to speak up.
"Hmm... interesting... I wonder why such a chemical would be present in here, but well... step on it and you can expect to be melted.
First of all, what kind of material is your glaive made of, Maya? I need to know so I can faster determine what the chemical is... If you don't know, that is fine; I can take a sample of the chemical carefully and examine deep what the solution's makeup is. If I know what it is, I may be able to neutralize this chemical puddle in front of us... maybe not... Knowing whether that chemical is a strong base or acid would help... PH levels and whatnot.
If you know what the chemical is, Firago, you best tell me. But seeing there is a puddle here, and I only have so much neutralizing chemicals to spare, there may be more throughout this cave.
I also wonder how deep this puddle is to begin with... If it isn't so deep, I guess we can wear a sort of shoes to get across it, and if that is the case, best make sure you don't make splashes. If it is too deep, then we may have to do something else. A good proposal to get across this obstacle is to freeze the puddle into a solid, then glazing our footwear with a protective chemical and cross it. Though... some chemicals are resistant to being frozen, having a very low freezing point. If that is the case, I can raise the freezing temperature with some different chemicals... Is this puddle endothermic or exothermic... hmm...
... ... I'm going to guess some of you have no idea some of the stuff I'm talking about."

"My glaive is made of 5 metals essentially. It is 23% Copper, 32% Zinc, 47% Aluminum, 12% Titanium and 6% Nickel. You think that you might know which element the puddle is? I'm not sure what it could be. My great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather was the one that forged the glaive. I just inherited it. I made a few magical changes myself, but other than that, there is no specific properties to it. What metal do you think the puddle is?"

"Hmm I don't know what it is but I've seen it before. Right before all this happened my masters taught me to tell which chemicals will kill you. I didn't understand much of it ,but I know for sure it'll kill you. Now about crossing it I can bring the ground under it up and we can cross that." The slightly quieter he said, "Thank you Ninjo. Anyways just give the the word and I'll start." Ignuss stood at the edge of the puddle and just stood there.

"So how are you going to bring the ground up so that we can walk over the puddle? Are you gonna will it with your mind? Is that how you can use your magic?" Maya asked.

Erlosung then just thought for a moment.
"Hmm... I guess I still need to take a sample myself and figure out what it exactly is. It doesn't really take much to figure out this chemical can kill seeing the reaction that occurred when Maya tipped it with her weapon; just imagine what would happen if it were skin to touch that.
Still however, I am wondering if it is even advisable to cross the puddle to begin with. For all we know we may end up at a dead end and be surrounded by these puddles of chemicals. May as well wait and hear what the leader has to say. As far as using earth magic... in a cave... It can be rather risky... but at least we know that option.
Now then... to see what this chemicals are composed of..."
Erlosung then goes near the puddle and takes out at the moment various rods of special material made to withstand very corrosive chemicals and dipped it into the puddle in an attempt to get some samples to analyze.

"Are you able to get something that is conclusive to see what the puddle is made of?" Maya asked.

Firago: "If it is some kind of acid it would somewhat be of Earth element. Only thing is that we don't know 100% what it is."
The group would hear some kind of strong hammering sound. It was strong enough to make the group's area shake.
Firago: "Do you feel that? Hmm, I wonder what's going on."
Then he saw the ceiling of the cave begin to crumble. "Guys I'd stay far away from that puddle if I were you." He started to back up.

Maya rushed away from the puddle and made sure that she was fully away from the puddle then. "Somehow I don't think that this is a good thing!"
(When is my surprise coming.)

He let the rods stay in there for a while until he heard a strong hammering sound and noticing the ceiling is beginning to crack. Without hesitating, he pulled the rods out and moved far from the puddle away from the range of any splashes that may occur from a rock dropping into the puddle.
"Something's up... and someone's around these caves as well..."
He then looked at the rods he took out, seeing some had completely corroded off to nothing. However, some of the chemicals were seeped into the rods as he hoped.
"Hmm... Well anyways I will quickly analyze what this chemical exactly is as fast as possible, give me a moment.*
He made sure nothing would fall on his head and then brings the rods close to the lens contraption that was on his eyes. If one looks at Erlosung, the lenses over his eyes seem to shift a bit and glowed a eerie color. From there he looked into the chemical to the microscopic level in an attempt to see the atomic structure of the chemical. He does this while keeping awareness of his surrounding, ready to take defensive action when necessary.
