I don't know if anyone made a 3DS thread or not already, but my god I'm going to make one anyway.
So we have a release date of March 25th, with a price of £230 which is about $367 - which it won't be, because Nintendo still likes to give us Europeans the shaft. Everything I've heard says it's going to be $250, with around 20 or so games in the launch period.
Who's getting one? Who doesn't care either way? Who is genuinely concerned that the 3D mode may have a harmful effect on the eyes and visual development of children? Won't somebody please think of the children? Who loves the fact that Nintendo is giving Europe the finger (again) by region locking the stupid thing?

I honestly hate the region locking thing, and I'm not even in Europe. For Pete's sake even the PSP is region free, and thankfully so because now I can play Breath of Fire III and Tales of Eternia on the go! Region locking is ridiculous in this day and age, but I suppose that's another rant for another time.
Anyhow, after the DSi, I've got no real drive to even attempt to get a 3DS. That price range, along with a useless gimmick I can't even enjoy due to my weird eyesight, really kills it for me. I mean, seriously, for just another $50 I can get a PS3, or one of those newfangled XBox 360s. I think I'll be passing on this one until some killer app releases. Ocarina of Time isn't enough. Ridge Racer isn't enough. Gonna say not even Mega Man Legends 3 is enough at this point unless it's guaranteed to be a masterpiece.

I originally thought (and still think, kinda) that the 3DS is over hyped. Speaking of a hand hold system that packs as powerful of a punch as the Nintendo Gamecube? I haven't delved into the topic much to look at the specs of the thing, but I suppose it is plausible if people can mod their own "Gamecube Portable."
What turns me on to getting it even more though is that my GameStop offers this deal whereby if you can part with your DSi, they'll knock down the price of the 3DS for some sort of exchange. Being that I mostly play games on my DSlite anyway (with a modded cart that won't work for DSi,) and I still turn to the thing to play my GBA titles, I figure, why not?

It's a step backward in software freedoms (as well as battery life, if the recent speculation is to be believed), but seriously, 3D without having to wear special glasses? Why doesn't everyone think of this stuff?
I'm really interested in that planned Paper Mario 3DS game, as long as it's a new game and not a remake. Judging by the screenshots, it does seem like there's some new content.

Just read some news that Nintendo are doing away with having a gazillion friend codes and settled on one system wide code. Also, DSiWare purchases can be transferred over to your new 3DS, which is about a million steps up from how they used to handle transferring purchases.

I probably won't be owning a 3DS unless if I win the lottery and have money to splurge. The movement for bringing back 3D (and now bringing it to almost every form of media that we can) just seems pointless to me. I want to play the game mainly for all of its content, not just to look at something pretty. Plus, from what I have seen, it seems like a good chunk of the launch games for the 3DS are just remakes. However, I have heard very good things about the OoT remake, and I'm hoping to hear good things about the "Star Fox 64" remake (legit, they kept the title the same). Maybe I'll be able to test drive it for a bit at PAX (Penny Arcade eXpo) in early March.

I think I'm going to wait until the 3DS gets improved. The short battery life is something I'm concerned about and I wouldn't doubt it will give me headaches like the Virtual Boy did about a decade and a half ago.

Actually, I heard somewhere else that the 3D visuals could be good for children's eyesight. I thought that was interesting! I won't be getting one unless I win the proverbial lottery. Even if I did get one, I wouldn't be able to afford any games. I also want to wait and see if they put out a new and improved version a couple years from now.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to get a 3DS immediately. It seems like Nintendo has sort of slipped a bit quality-and-popularity-wise... used to be that their handhelds were a must-buy. Whether this is due to change in product vision/hardware design/timing, or if it's because of tough competition from the iPhone and similar devices, or perhaps both, I'm not sure, but it definitely seems like they lost some of their roar. I mean, I've already spent a similar amount of money on an OpenPandora handheld which, practicality-wise, would allow me to do much more than a 3DS would. I've been waiting for delivery of the thing... ...for a couple years... ...and perhaps a little more... ...but supposedly I'm going to get mine in about a month. Don't quote me on that, though.
