Alright, let's all admit it. Those banners at the top of every page are getting kind of annoying. Well, I thought this would be a great way to test if we can even TRY and make enough money for our 'convention.' First, let's try and get rid of all these ads, and if we find that making money is not a problem, we can move foward with the convention money-making.
The current price is that $140.00 will purchase us 1,000,000 ad-free visits. This is great, and the price is only a fraction of what we need for our convention trip. Artists that want to volunteer themselves for commissions should post here. I know I will be volunteering. We can create a separate thread for commission requesting later if everyone thinks this is a good idea.
Also, I could set up a google ad banner on my site if people would be willing to click it once a day. This would help to supplement the money we raise with commissions.
So.. does everyone think this is good idea, or should we scrap it?

I'm all for having this place add free, but I don't see any adds.

I agree.Ad-free is the way to be,but I'm not a good enough artist to do commisions...

I couldn't do commisions, because, frankly, i'm a better chef then I am an artist. And There's merely one add on each page. The closer to the convention, the better.

I understand, but this is merely a test that will also benefit the board. If we can't make $140.00, how are we supposed to make in excess of $5000.00? Do you understand my viewpoint?

I don't care a WHOLE lot about ad free...I mean sometimes they bring up stuff worth a look...though most of the time it is junk. I once got sent to an Ebay page on runescape .

El screw that? that would be spanish, there is no el in france XD. Though I agree with you, or as the French might say
"Eh, non, je ne suis pas acheter avec d'argent pour le add free"
Thats probally still wrong
But as saying, thats not a bad idea Tempest and a good test of things, but I don't get to many adds. Though, if all goes through, I would be willing to commit for it.

I think those 1,000,000 views are only good for a month, or so says Proboards support pages:
Never mind, turns out that the adfree thing works on a credits system, so it wouldn't have to be the full $140... then again its probably a better idea to have those credits in reserve, and would be a decent test to see if we can make that much if this Big YC Meet does actually go ahead.

$140 for 1,000,000 visits?
Sounds like a ripoff to me...but advertisment fees aren't exactly my forté, so I wouldn't know either way.

$140 for 1,000,000 visits? Sounds like a ripoff to me...but advertisment fees aren't exactly my forté, so I wouldn't know either way. The minimum you can buy is $7 for 50,000 views, but I have no idea if we even get that many views a month. Their adfree works on that credit system, at $1/credit so if we did make the $140 amount as far as I'm aware its not like you'd need to use it all at once, because that would just be a massive waste of money. I don't know whether theres any other board features that those credits go to, though.

Waste of money. And money is good if you have, I say - don't throw it away. You can easily make the board ad-free for free (haha... erk), if you use Mozilla Firefox... You just need to block some URLs with the Adblock extension, what you can find here. Or here. So, the URLs where the evil ads come from: - banners.4d5.net/- So block these. There might be more, but I just found those now...

Ohh, I see...well, I'm still not totally sure about it, but I suppose its worth a try. Although I still have doubts (Negative Central, can you tell?) that commission work will get us anywhere, if even a little forward than where we already are. If that fails, what else have we got? Really? Apart from commission work and ad clicks, we haven't got a leg to stand on. If our single option falls through, and we have nothing else to opt for...its a bit of a lost cause. I'm just trying to see what other options we truly can use. Heh, the RPG died quite a long time ago. The convention idea can be seen in this thread.

Okay, the reaction is obviously negative to this, so I shall deem the idea scrapped.

Um... okay, that is the problem why sitemeter exist. So I just registered one for YC a minute ago, hah; www.sitemeter.com/default.asp?action=stats&site=sm2yoshiscornerHuááá. But it only works if an admin inserts this code to the global header, or rather the global footer: <!--WEBBOT bot="HTMLMarkup" startspan ALT="Site Meter" --> <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">var site="sm2yoshiscorner"</script> <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript1.2" src="http://sm2.sitemeter.com/js/counter.js?site=sm2yoshiscorner"> </script> <noscript> <a href="http://sm2.sitemeter.com/stats.asp?site=sm2yoshiscorner" target="_top"> <img src="http://sm2.sitemeter.com/meter.asp?site=sm2yoshiscorner" alt="Site Meter" border="0"/></a> </noscript> <!-- Copyright (c)2005 Site Meter --> <!--WEBBOT bot="HTMLMarkup" Endspan --> ... If it needed

You know we could use that money for the hurricane but having the boards free of banners is a good choice too.
