It is possible to be sued for stealing other people work. But it is very rarely done because of the costs involved for both sides. More common is the requested removal of material. If that doesn't work, the web hosts.
Though if the web hosts don't belive you, you'll usually have to just bite your tongue and move on.
Anyway, screenshots are actually a bit of a grey area at the moment. There's some debate in some of the more influential PC game communities right now.
Basically there is a guy who is taking screenshots, which feature freeware add-on 3D models and texture sets in a commercial flight simulator and then editing the screenshots in photoshop to look like paintings and selling the prints.
Initally the masses were jumping all over it saying it was wrong, but the developers themselves say its fine because the actual 3D model or textures themselves aren't being sold, just an image of them.
Its like taking a photo of a Ferrari and selling it. Would you be expected to pay money to Ferrari, the designer etc? Nyope.
So if you take a screencapture yourself, then that is yours and you have some rights over it, like where it can and can't be shown. The content doesn't strictly belong to Nintendo.
Official artwork or renders are free game, it doesn't matter if they were scanned or not, those are still Nintendo's images so don't exclusivly belong to anyone.

Wow, I only just noticed this site until now...
I can see why he'd steal stuff, seeing as it seems to be one of the most badly designed pages I've ever seen. Why not beef up a crappy site with someone elses things that are good?

Wow, I never heard of Yoshi Lore or ever visited his site at that... I think that what he did is a dishonest, disrespectful thing to do. I mean, his insidious ways of stealing other people's stuff to make his site better than the rest is just plain evil.
Although I know that what he did was wrong, I am against the action of fighting back against him. It's the wrong thing to do, we should not trash his site and make his life miserable for our revenge. What goes arround, comes around, eventually YL will get what is coming to him. We do not want to be just like Yoshi Lore now do we? that'll just tell others how rude, impolite, and threatening Yoshi's Corner is, and people would avoid joining the board knowing that the members here are fighting and trashing another site. I suggest that we all do not fight him or trash his site because of this, I'm sure he'll get caught someway.
By the way, who's idea was it to stickie this thread. II find it quite unpleasant to find a thread that talks trash about other sites right smack-dab on the top of the Yoshi's Cafe. It wasn't a very bright idea, whoever stickied it here.

Now that it's been mentioned, Joshi has a pretty good point. But I still think we should inform a few people, maybe his staff, of what he's doing and how wrong it is. That way, we don't trash his site, he gets some of what he deserves, and we won't tarnish our reputation. But that's just my opinion.

Instead of going to him directly and insulting his insidious ways, we should talk to others about what he does and the other people would stop using his content and perhaps boycott his site, that way, both Yoshi Soul's and Nintendo's copyrighted work will be protected and enforced. Plus it'll frustrate him knwoing that people are leaving his site knwoing that people realized most of the stuff on his site is not even his.  |

Uhhh... my original plan (the current plan) is exactly that. I never said I wanted to go flame him at his site and all other sites. That would be totally useless and immature. The idea is to make his site lose traffic because that's what he is trying to do to my site. Telling as many people as possible about his doings is the goal. If those people decide to keep visiting his site anyway then that's their own choice.

I have a great solution to all this. Since he copied files off my site without permission, then obviously I can do the same with HIS files. If this continues on for the next few weeks, I will add his ENTIRE SITE to mine. (minus the crappy features). This way, he's the one who's gonna end up losing site popularity. I will start this plan real soon, but I will agree to stop this plan if and ONLY if he permanently removes all of my files off his site. Soul, according to this paragraph, your primary plan was to add his entire site to yours so he would lose his popularity level. Sure, you want to let others know about this, but at the same time, completely ruin YL. That's what I'm against, the fact that you are going add his entire site yours. It isn't right, you didn't say you wanted to do exactly what I suggested. |
