The PSP is kinda cool, $280 is a bit steep considering it has a lot of PS2 titles and the video capability is just a marketing ploy, it only plays movies that are made onto a UMD. Short battery life wouldn't bother me (PSP has better batery life than my Atari Lynx). I would probably get it just for GT4 or to show off.

Thinking about it...No. Reasons 1. High Price 2. Don't really like Playstation 3. I bet they put that stuff in there just to make the DS look like crap. Speaking of portables... I've heard that Sega is making a hand held game and then leave Nintendo. Is it true?
P.S. - 1. my cousin told me. 2. I might, I said I might get it next christmas. 3. ... Nintendo rules, Playstation and X-Box drools. You're okay Sega.

No, it means posting one after the other. Twice in a row. If you read the rules, you'd know what it was, among other things.
Keeping the topic on track though...
$280 is very steep, not to mention it's Sony's first console in the handheld market, so thats one bad move already. Because it's so highly priced, it's not so available to the majority of the public that the DS is. As for the UMD's, they're just Gamecube Disc's in caddies. Sony's renowned for stealing the technology ideas from other companies.
With reference to 2. Yeah, I can sympathise with you there actually, I'm extremely against anything Sony make, especially after the trouble I had with a recent product I bought of theirs. I won't be buying Sony again...
To 3. Well, it's always been Sony's aim to try to make their consoles multi-functioned media center's. They tried a similar system in Japan, which failed, but they've taken a different approach, and it appears to have worked, for quarter of the people that bought one. 75% of PSP's got returned because of physical design flaws such as the UMD's ejecting themselves and screenburn, among many other faults.
And no, Sega isn't planning a comeback with a handheld. It'd be a very unwise decision, financially. They came out of the console platform for a very good reason, and don't intend to re-enter it.
To be brutally honest, I'm fed up seeing them now. They've murdered Sonic now. The original Master system and megadrive versions are the best out the lot.

The reason I don't like Playstation too much because their in competition with Nintendo. The only thing I liked about them is their racing, Tony Hawk, Dave Mirra, and Matt Hoffman games. They've murdered Sonic now? What does that mean? I like Sonic games, I draw him half of the time. What's wrong with Sonic?

They've murdered Sonic now? What does that mean? I like Sonic games, I draw him half of the time. What's wrong with Sonic? Well, really, as far as Sonic has gone, it spiralled downhill when they finished with the console biz because the head of ideas for Sonic apparently passed away, and his ideas rocked. I'll always remember Sonic's enemy as Doctor robotnic, not eggman as he's known now. There's no sence of urgency in the games anymore. As for playstation, and sony in general, yes, I hate them because they're trying to do what EA are trying to do. Monopolise and purify the industry with hugely inferior and bland gaming.

I didn't help that in the later sonic games, you rarely actually got to play as Sonic... all the other levels were pointless, really. Knuckles levels were just dull and Big... fishing? Sonic games have always been about the speed... or used to be

only problem with that is that you'd have to buy all your DVDs again so you can watch them on the PSP...

Actually, the DS was made as a counter to the PSP. I know most people here are Nintendo fans, but try and keep objective about things. The DS is probably going to be a stop-gap until the GBA2 which is expected in a couple of years that promises portable GCN power. But the DS still has enough unique features of its own to let it live for a good after that.
PSP, I might buy one in the future after a price drop but that's one system I won't be an early adopter to. Frog is spot on about the movie playing aspect. I really doubt many of the film producer labels besides Sony are really going to bother making special versions of their movies that can only be played on the PSP. Or that people will buy them when the price will likely be similar to DVD. A portable DVD player with a reasonably sized screen is surely more practicle for that purpose.
On the reliability front, the DS isn't perfect either. I opened my brand new one yesterday to find I had 2 dead pixels on the lower screen straight out of the box. A phone call to Nintendo today revealed I'm not the only one. I'll be sending it off in a week or two for replacement when the demand has settled down a bit. But its a 'happy' reminder of the joys of these LCD screens that after a few months, a year etc, we will start having pixel failure on both our DS and PSP.
Lets not fly off at people for buying different consoles. I have a PS2, Xbox, GCN, Dreamcast, N64, PSOne and Saturn all set up at this very moment. Like it or not, if you want to enjoy all of the very best games, you need to go multi-format. I prefer Nintendo games generally, but I still have had great fun playing MGS3 or Halo 2. ^_^

It was heard over at gamesindustry.biz that the first movies were already being generated for PSP. One being 1989's Total recall (Darn classic film). You could probably watch one movie on a psp and have the battery run out, whereas, you could probably get through 2 normal length movies on a portable dvd player.
There were two major faults with regards to DS's screen. I heard about the dead pixels a week ago, but I heard a rumour about some units suffering from screenburn also, but I haven't heard of a case on either PR sites I'm part of.
And yeah, I've gone multiformat myself. Heck, I loaned both formats of Metal gear substance out so I could compare between Playstation 2 and XBox, and oddly enough, on the XBox, it had a lower framerate, so I kept to playing that on ps2. I don't have a ps2 in my posetion at the moment though. My brother had it because his no-longer works and I've not had time to repair it.
Sticking on topic though, PSP's featureset is good, but it won't be replacing my N-Gage as my mp3 player, and there's nothing great in the Playstation ring of consoles that interests me anyway. GT4 might interest some people, but it's just a new version of GT3: A-spec, but with better graphics and fancier tracks. Same ordeal.

No, GT4 is a whole different thing from GT3 (or as I prefer to call it, GT2.5) GT3 was a mess with a terrible menu and prize system and a rather small amount of cars. GT4 is a very different experience. It is considerably better in every single way. The graphics have actually only undergone a few minor tweaks. The B-Spec mode was a stroke of genius that reduces one of the biggest problems in the series: driving the same cup again and again for money. I'm not fond of the inclusion of 24 hour endurance races though. Even using B-spec and 3x time acceleration, that's 8 hours solid, but that's the only real gripe. I know everyone has their opinions, but GT4 really isn't just another rehash of GT3. Polyphony have done a noteworthy job with the series this time. There has been 3 years between GT3 and 4, and the time was put to good use. Used in conjunction with the new Logitech Offical GT4 steering wheel and you have a truly special experience in a console driving game.
Anyway, on the MGS2 Substance issue, that is quite well documented. Pretty straight forward really, MGS2 was specifically programmed to use the PS2 hardware and used every trick in the book. When the game was ported to the Xbox, it was on better hardware, but the port was sloppy and the coding didn't do anything to take advantage of that hardware. That the Xbox version of MGS2: Substance was never released in Japan also indicates how much love that port was given.

I think personally, my DS works better than any PSP would. It lasts about...15 hours, if you're conservative.
