Well, on Wikipedia it said it was a shell soooooooo, yeah. Don't use Wikipedia as a primary source. It's written by commoners like you and me without much expert knowledge (in fact, one of its tenets is not to show original research) and what's there today could be gone tomorrow. Good for general, basic knowledge, not good for citing. That said, "Super Dragon" could be a title. Not to support the KKK in any way, but they have titles like "Grand Wizard" and "Grand Dragon", and I don't think anyone in it has wings or is skilled in the use of traditionally-viewed magic. That's not to say Yoshi secretly goes around with a white pointy hat, but it could have some sort of meaning, or maybe Yoshi's trying to appear tougher. And secondly, Anjil, where has a Yoshi been shown without its boots outside of fanart? This is certainly interesting. As for your classification, there's been 65 million years of evolution since the end of the dinosaurs. There's nothing to say that Yoshi hasn't descended from the carnosaur family and developed a more omnivorous diet. |

Just... what I think what family Yoshi'd belong in or something if it had to be classified with the dinosaurs. Hurhur, you can ignore me.  I'm beginning to wonder if the "dragon" and "dinosaur" titles are mistranslations. Dinosaur is "kyouryuu" in Japanese, while dragon is just "ryuu." They sound... sorta the same. I don't know. Then again, I don't know whether or not those titles were translated from either kanji or kana. *shrugs* |

I'm sure the Japanese word for dinosaur derived from the Chinese translation "konglong" ®£Às in which "long" is the same character for dragon (ryuu in Japanese). Seperating the Chinese characters, dinosaur would mean "terrifying dragon."
I wouldn't think it's a mistranslation, but rather a compromise for having only so many characters to bear meaning to such an abundance of words and names out there. Lacking a single character that would mean dinosaur alone, the closest they can get is by having a combination of characters with some agreeable literal meaning, to the Chinese at least.

Terrifying lizard, terrifying dragon...I love language. XD It might explain why it's called "Dinosaur Land", but...I would prefer to have the translation of the original Japanese name for SMW's world.

When you get riding the yoshi in the roof, you actually can jump to the blue pipe with him, and when you go to the pipe, the yoshi is without its boots =P Anyway, i have been out for some time, i was in YAforums |
