I'll take game musics, it's the only one that I like from the options, I prefer instrumental musics though.

Happy Hardcore all the way, heh... I doubt many of you would know what that is. And even if you do, most wouldn't tolerate it.

I usually tend to listen to R & B songs and maybe some Christian songs here and there that I can't really tell what kind of music it is, strange enough R & B isn't on the list and is a lot more popular and common than most of the ones on the list.

Depends on my mood mainly since I'm very varied. Happy: Fast paced heavy rock/emo, for example, Dragonforce, My Chemical Romance, Muse, Incubus. Meh/Inspired to make something: Soft rock, for example, Pink Floyd, Polyphonic Spree, Adams and the Federalists, Dredg, Hope of the states. Depressed(Nevar!): Either depresso-rock or hard rock to get me out the mood, for example, Radiohead, Sepultura, Cradle of Filth, Arcade Fire. As you can see, I'm very varied, and I'll listen to anything anyone throws at me(So long as it isn't Steps or Bewitched x.X). Credit goes to Frog for letting me know about this awesome site, and allowing you to keep tabs on what I listen to: www.last.fm/user/PinkFloydYoshi/Oh yeah, I enjoy that happy hardcore stuff too. Thanks teh .

..Odd, I thought I posted here already. Stuff I listen to is pretty varied. My playlist (which is currently peaked at 1274 tracks and lasts 87 hours 50 minutes 6 seconds) is a mixed bag, as is demonstrated here in its pure unsorted glory.

I hate rap.
I don't really like game music- 1. It's not entertaining 2. It has no meaning 3. It just sounds like your trying to sound like a gaming freak XD 4. Songs inspire me. Little bleeps don't TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! !
I barely ever play video games. Only came here because yoshi is cute :3

You do realise that the quality of music in games has increased somewhat from the SNES era? The quality of sound the DS can put out is pretty good, right now I have a track from Castlevania DoS playing and even through the PC speakers its still a pretty good sounding track. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.

I prefer trance / techno / hardcore, and in general, every electronical stuff. dos r teh bestest! :P
Of course, that doesn't mean I don't listen to songs in other genres, but the type I prefer the most is the one above. The only thing I dislike is... punk rock, gaaah... those tracks blast my vein out from my body n stuf lol.
I also like videogame music as well, especially old-skool c64 tunes! D:

Double-scoop ice cream I don't really like game music- 1. It's not entertaining 2. It has no meaning 3. It just sounds like your trying to sound like a gaming freak XD 4. Songs inspire me. Little bleeps don't TRIPLE BONUS MULTIPLIER ! !What is a song? What makes a song a song? The simplest whistle of a tune, the most basic arrangement of beeps and blips, to a full orchestra and tenor choir, to, unfortunately, black guys (or otherwise wannabes) speaking indiscernable garble to a repeated beat. I'll have you know that even the songs of the most eldest games are indeed entertaining with great meaning behind them. The song sets so much of the mood for any game, new or archaic, that without them none of them would be quite the same. Think about what the developers had to work with -- they had as early as four sound channels, and the most basic of synths -- the work many put in, and the output they created given the extremely limited equipment should give you all the meaning you need. And think about the mood of the games -- so there may be no words within the songs to set the mood. What is a human voice? It's just another instrument among the plethoria of ones used in any song. The only difference is that each word of a voice can apply a different meaning to one you may derive. This is why I love old game songs, and song without lyrics -- it's up to you as to what the song is supposed to feel like. Is it a happy song? Is it perhaps forboding, explorative, cold, warm, inviting, tense? I like having that freedom... many a time have I heard a song who's melody, beat, rhythm, and 'mood' was so perfect, something wonderful... but the lyrics attached have given an entirely different meaning to the song, or in some cases depending on the voice of whoever is singing, ruined it. As for being a gaming freak, it may be a truth, but that is no underlying reason for the love I and many share for songs of the like. It's just how I've become, I've grown to appreciate the lack of lyrics, and the presence of computer-generated synths, as well as entirely instrumental, epic songs. I think your judgement of 'song' is very uninclusive, Yoshifrog.

I think you hit the truth of what music really is right there in your reply Graedius. That just don't go for "Game Music" In general but it supports every single genre. You're more than just correct. Music depends upon the moods that it gives off from the sounds that can be produced. Back in the old days, music was established mainly of instruments. Using human voices was a rarity. To this day that music still thrives, in our games and through movies. It reflects the world of the classics, and those are the true types of music that catch hearts. Then through more time, Ballads became a part of society and since then we have had music mixed in with Lyrics. Both types of music establish a tone, words or not. Each one is unique in its own essence.
With words, one does not focus most definetly on the sound of the music itself. The song is more lifted on the boundaries of the words and the rhyme scheme. When a song rhymes, the melody usually follows a certain pattern that every time it does. When a chorus comes in the music usually quiets itself down so you can hear the voice and the meaning to the song. Voices aren't necessarily needed though to get the point across of which you try to create. Some old songs created in the French Revolution mainly focused on one word. It wasn't the word which gave the song its magical touch, it was the way the words were said and how each note was placed. A real song is one which gives the words themselves musical qualities. When you can take a saying and weave it around in your voice, you can create something so strong you can make someone cry, laugh, or become excited.
Music without words, which can be techno and so on to game music work straight off human emotion. There are just some things you can hear in your life that catch you by the neck and hold you tightly. It's hard to explain, but they do because they seem to bite at your memory and at your mind. When a song can unbury hidden emotions, it crosses over into what we call a masterpiece. True music is that which becomes "extra"ordinary. A song that relates to the average person in such a way that it connects to society as a whole. Game music has a limited space, as you said, and over time it has gained more and more. Games need to rely on their music to get the story across. Characters can do it, but its really the music that makes a game a game as well. You may have the flashy graphics and pictures but from you need that melody that brings tears to your eyes.
Either way, no type of music is better than the other. We're all human so we're bound to fight and beg to differ from opinions. Just remember that movie and game music has to focus off emotions, they have to dig where lyrics can not go. Thus, they hold a quality while music with lyrics can say and do things that game music can not. A song with Lyrics gets the message across through its words, a song in a game gets its point across with the setting, characters, and tone. Sometimes I can even merely hear a song from a game and wish to buy it. Or after I beat a game and hear a song from it, I connect it straight back to that scene. That's the real power of music, to have you picture something that your mind can recall. Game and Lyrics can do those both. Lyrics can make you recall a time you wish you could relive, a game can bring up the same thing and even make you wish for new things.
Real music is the music that explains you, the music that makes you. Music is the universal language because we all understand it. It doesn't matter what type of music catches you, what matters is if it gives you the feelings that other things can not.

Well, I'm not going to say what I chose, because then all y'all would think I'm a freak, as if I'm not already. Anyway, I'm a variety person, but not wide range. Like, I can't stand rap, (most) rock, metal, whatever Korn does, whatever Him does, whatever Green Day does, things like that bother the holy heck out of me. I'm more of the... well I like some Country! And... well... nevermind. XD

Meh, I most likely wouldn't like it, things that are just noise noise noise I can't stand. (Especially Korn, really big ugh there.) And then there's Franky J, can't stand him. Green Day, 311, Britney Spears, Snoop Dog, Gwen Stefanie, ... can't think of more names...
