Darn it. All it shows at the bottom right corner of my screen are the volume controls, security updates for my computer, an AOL icon, the MSN messenger icon, and my QuickTime player. Nothing about a firewall or virus scanner:(

hmm, ok try this, press control alt delete to bring up your task manager, and check to see if theres any sign of a firewall.

oh dear.. i was afriad you were using LEVEL UP ! !, um check under..... ah crap. i'm sorry, i use windows 98 wich has a very diffrent task manager than LEVEL UP ! !'s. let me try and remeber my friend pc. uh, look under programs i think, or was it system programs, i'm not sure. just look under all the tabs and see if theres a sign of a firewall.
wait a minute? did you say LEVEL UP ! !? tell me, when you download msn, is there a certain version for LEVEL UP ! ! users only? that could be the problem.

Did you download the LEVEL UP ! ! version Anjil Yoshi? If you doidn't, then it wouldn't be compatible to your Windows version and most likely would suffer from bad performance. I'm just restating what F-15 Yoshi said aren't I?

There's no tab in the Task Manager that says "Program" or "System Programs." There's Applications, Processes, Performance, Networking, and Users.
Yes, i downloaded the messenger for Windows LEVEL UP ! !.

Oh yeah, that's true. I have Windows Messenger too! I downloaded MSN because it's better. My friends kept urging me to download it so here I am. Anjil, if you can't simply get it onto your computer, then you might as well stick to Windows Messenger. It's almost the same things except wit fewer features. It's the best you can do with a firewall going on in your computer.

i don't know if anjil even has a firewall though . my last thing i can think of is.. Do you have more than 1 computer connected to the net in your house at the same time? as in.. are you on a router? this might be the problem, but if it is, sadly, i can't think of a solution.

Oh? It does? I haven't seen it before. It might be gone. Lots of files have disappeared since my computer crashed a couple years ago. Or maybe i need to explore my computer a little more.... Oh, and i just found out that i have MSN explorer, if that helps....
I'm trying to get MSN Messenger. ... Oh, and no, this is the only computer in my house

oops, i think this got posted just after i posted mine. sorry, i'm not sure why there seems to be a problem, in my previous post i asked if you have more than one pc connected to the net at the same time? or in this case, your pc is behind a router, If this is the cause of the problem (and i really hope it isnt) i'm afraid to say that i can't help you with that. since i'm not sure how routers or networks are set up to work. sorry

Of course Windows Messenger is compatible with MSN. Except that they are two separate messengers. If you download MSN, you will still have Windows Messenger availabe in your computer because it is still the default messenger, but, in your start menu, the most recent version will appear, being MSN.
