I was wondering where did you get your idea for your character designs, personalities, weapons, etc. Post where you got your inspirations. I'll post mine later, I have to go in a bit, so I won't be type it now. Sorry if there's already a topic like this.

To tell you the truth, I've had my character forever. I've had my name ever since I first saw Digimon. Turns out WereGaruruMon became my favorite of the digimon. I always loved the 'Garuru' part of his name, and I loved the way the voice actor said it. 'Garuru' sounded like the perfect name for a wolf character, so I researched it and found out that it is the Japanese sound effect for growling/howling, so that made it the absolute perfect name for my fursona.
I believe I based my anthro character and his appearance off of the Big Bad Wolf from Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics: Little Red Riding Hood that I watched on Nick when I was a wee lad. I mean, the wolf from that anime was brown and wore a blue vest, and my fursona use to be brown as well.

Well, back a long time ago in August, I wanted a yoshi character. I'd been a member of this board for a while, and I liked yoshies and all. I just oddly had only made one character, called Kristen (very original name, I know). But since that was the name of roughly half of all my characters at the time- being the generic and cliche writer I was at the time- I decided to go for something else.
Building on Kristen's hot pink body and the brown eyes, I frowned at the plain white undersides of yoshies. So then I thought how cool it would be to make it purple. So I thought of that, but then still frowned at the plain-ness of the area. Since I liked furry things like cats and stuff, I thought fur would be all spiffy. So then the character was given some silky and spiffy fur.
From there, I decided to throw in cyan spines- mostly because cyan is my second favorite color- and gave her four of them. I decided to choose four because I found myself giving her a variable amount of spines while drawing, and I believe four was the latest number I had given her in a picture. I followed a similar method with her fingers. I also gave her cyan boots because, again, cyan is a spiffy color. I also designed her tongue to be cyan since I thought red looked a bit out of place in with all the other colors, and because it's something a bit different. Everyone wants a cyan tongue.
So after dropping the saddle because I thought it looked plain weird and was useless (would have been cyan if I kept it), it was time for a name. I decided on Pawy, because that name held a special significance to me. Now before switching over to the 'net alis of Pawy, I was known as Dragon Paw. Well, I'm still known as both pretty much, but still. But anywho, people used to dub me Pawy as a shortened version of Dragon Paw. I thought it was a cute name and stuff, so that's where the name Pawy came from. And, yes, as her name suggests, Pawy has paws. Well, more like paw-feet with some nifty cyan claws, considering she has normal hands. Well, as normal as a hand can be with four fingers.
Pawy has a lot of interesting weapons. I still have to write some story about her that includes some usage of all the different weapon designs for her. >_> She has a lot, mostly because I like things that glow, blow up, or shoot lasers. Or are energy or something. I also like the elements. So yeah.
Pawy's personality changes a bit, but it tends to be more.. emotional. You know, she likes killing stuff, likes her mate, uh. She cares about close friends and stuff, and.. yeah. Doesn't get depressed much at all, at least.

Ahh, my story is kind of weird and all over the place, hehe: 1) Well, we begin with the game Final Fantasy 6. Way later on in the game, a chest containing one of the harder bosses drops the best dagger-class weapon, a holy-enchanted dagger called the Graedus. On the same not,e I beleive Graedus is latin for Gladius, which might have had some effect. Bottom line, I had my favorite character use this knife, and liked the name and it's effects. Being a strange, imaginative kid as I was (and still am) I had spent many hours in classes doodling excessively 'sacred' weapons, like the sorts of things you'd play 60 hours doing excessive quests to earn in any RPG -- and then I liked the name "Graedus" so I changed it to sound a little more appropriate to me, which was "Graedius", and then applied that name to this really neat looking (At the time) sword I doodled while bored beyond beleif in class. At this point, the name is generally left alone for a long time. 2) Then, I got horribly addicted to Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings. There was a British enemy (I beleive) Who's random computer name was Duke Lucas, and my name being Luke, I thought that was instantly win -- and at about this time I began using the internet for it's many uses, my internet life sadly starting with Neopets (My account and property still exists, even.) I then added two and two and began to use the name Duke Lucas as my online alias for quite a long time beyond then. It wasn't 'till a long time later that I joined my first Nintendo-forum, where I met a lot of people I know here, and through it, came here at all, met any of you, and likely had my life transpire thus far as it has. I decided that Duke Lucas was really quite a corny name, and had to think of something more appropriate, that I liked, but wouldn't interfere with my perfectionist nature -- then the name Graedius reoccured to me. I thought, hell, it's pretty good, let's use it. Here it stands to this day. Double-scoop ice cream 3) Although, as time drew by I became introduced and actually active into the idea and realm of roleplaying, and as such a character had to be developed -- at the time of first using the name Graedius, I actually had nothing, which developed into a sort of Yellow Yoshi form for a time -- it was mostly a name for me. As time drew on, I became more and more in love with Red Mages from the Final Fantasy series. I used a sprite from Final Fantasy Origins to represent this. At about this time, I became interested in furries and their... >.> ways. And a while later, I ended up playing the most awesomely cute and neat Super nintendo game ever, called Pocky and Rocky. And I always played as this rediculously cute Raccoon/Tanuki character called Rocky, and I fell in love with him as well as reassured my love of Raccoons. Double-scoop ice cream Telling everyone about this, John (teh yoshi) randomly drew me a giftart picture which was the character Rocky in a Red Mage's outfit: I was so in love with the combonation, that I began to use this avatar to represent Graedius, and even made some altered sprites of the character to couple it's use -- although at the moment I don't have any anymore. Searching "Graedius" on Google can allow you to see some of them on the image search, if anyone really cares. ;3 As time went on I roleplayed this fuzzy little character and came to rather love the whole idea of him. Double-scoop ice cream At this time I became good friends with the artist Koshizu, and after talking a whole lot, she drew a giftart picture for me of a fully-anthropomorphic picture of Graedius, albeit it no longer stands as that anymore: img171.imageshack.us/img171/9029/028copy6fi.png ...And an anthro-'coon is how I stand now -- albeit the physical form of Graedius is a lot different than that picture there, now -- the clothes remain the same (As of yet.) Graedius has come to mena a lot more to me than just a picture on the internet -- he's a literal avatar of myself, I suppose a form I cannot physically assume, and a form I cannot emotionally assume -- at least, not anywhere but here. He's sort of the thing that completes me, really. Yeah, that's me. Double-scoop ice cream

I don't consider teh yoshi as a character, rather than just a name to use online, 'tis all.
The name came from when I used to be a moderator for DDRManiaX, a popular DDR simulation website, and that the administrator had "teh llama" under his title, it amused me. That's how the alias teh yoshi was born.
If anything, "he" is light blue because that's my favorite color. He's a plain Yoshi because I like Yoshi the way he is (that, and everyone else here pretty much has some weird modification and/or some weapon of some sort). Feeling I'm the only plain Yoshi left makes me feel special as well as original (think about that!).
That's about it, really.

Midnight took literally almost no thought at all.I simply realized that there were practically no black Yoshies on the forum, and certainly no black yoshies with dark gray underbellies. And then, slapping silver hair on was a total coloring convenience, just some light pencil coloring.Originally, her boots were green, because of her sisterhood with Cayoshi, but Cayoshi's color changed from green to white,so Midnight's boots followed.(Of course,Cayoshi is a mouse now,so that was a waste of time. xD) Her eyes were originally green as well, but everyone who did art trades with me was coloring them brown,so...now they're brown. LEVEL UP ! ! Then, throw on bat wings,a white dress,a necklace and a forked tongue, and you've got Midnight.

The idea for Strangie came from my love of the Ice Climbers from SSBM. Also, it was a character type nobody else had so I figured I should be unique and go with that. After that, I basically molded him off of my interests into the freak creation he is today. XD Some people have told me that I look undeniably like my character (Contention) so I guess you could say he's a shorter, noseless version of myself. And yes, I do have his visor outfit in real life.

Where to start? Hmmm... Will, Psy has gone throw a lot of changes over the years. In the beginning His name wasn't Psy it was Foxman and he was a normal calm and somewhat sane (I know! GASP!) red fox guy, with blue eyes. A year of so later he changed, he was no longer a red fox but white fox with yellow eyes instead. Back then he was known as Balmung Foxfire for my favorite character in my favorite game (Back then) .hack//.
After two years he picked up the name Psy (Yay!) from a chat room on DA (That I no longer go to) Because of my DA name Psychofox717. Two more year after that he became a white Western dragon with this weired Mohawk looking thing on his head. Why? Cuz' I love dragons that's why. half a year later I said to myself "... What the heck is with that thing? I'm going to get rid of it and give him hair... How about my hair! That would be cool!" So I gave him hair n' stuff.
Then a year later he changed into the guy you see before you now. A Eastern dragon that can Chang into different kind of dragon forms. And OVER those year he has become more and more like me & more and more insain... Just like ME! So I guess you can say that Psy IS me in some ways... But better looking. LEVEL UP ! ! And THAT kiddies, is how Psy came to be. I hope you enjoyed that little story about my boring life.
As for weapons and the like... He uses whatever he finds. But he mostly uses swords n' stuff.

well My characters creation took a while ^^.
I was at my Grandmas house one day, playing SSBM with my cousins, this was many, many years ago when I wasnt really that good at SSBM ^^. I always loved being young link, and my cousin, Cody, always loved being Pikachu. I would constantly lose against him. I decided just to pick random one day just for fun, thinking I was going to lose against him. the random thing went to Yoshi. I wasnt much of a Yoshi Fan then ^^, but I beat him, and then I beat him again, and I kept beating him for like, 7 times in a row. I instantly loved Yoshi after that.
I was bored one day after checking my email, and decided to just type Yoshi in on google. I found some pretty awesome stuff. I decided to join a messageboard (this MB was deleted a few months after I joined). I didnt have a character then, and my name wasnt Yoshiken.
I decided that I wanted to make a website. At that time tho, I had no materials for a website, and nothing to put ON a website. I still wanted to create a character for myself however. I decided to make it red, because that was always my main SSBM color. I wanted to make him creative at that time too, so I added Blonde hair. I made it long at first, like Sephiroth or something, but I didnt like it too much XD, so I changed it to shorter spikes as you see.
I added a Katana, cuz well, I loved Samurai stuff XD. I also had a Kimono, but no one drew that in the pictures and after a while, I just erased it, because no one knew he had it XD.
The Dragon Wings came because, well, I thought it would be kool XD, and originally creative (until a few years later when I noticed that a bunch of people were joining this MB in Dragon-Hybrid forms XD )
The headband, well that came out of my lack of art skill XD. I tried drawing my Yoshi, but I could not get the top of the eyes and head right! I tried again but it still came out wrong, I decided to give him a blue headband just so I didnt have to draw it XD.
and thats how my character was created!

Okay, I can't explain Jay's Human form since it was Raven's idea of the design. But I'll explain Jayshi old and new look.
After I heard about Yoshi's Corner, I examined everything that happened here before I joined. After 3 weeks of looking around. I asked dad can I join, it took a lot to convince him to let me. After seeing so many different Yoshis, I thought I make a Yoshi.
The color of Jayshi was Green since it was my favorite color. Not much to say about it here.
The hair was kind of difficult to think about. If I remember correctly, The hair was basically small, like Yoshi on PM: TTYD. I couldn't think of anything else at the time since I was a rookie drawer. I gave a Blue color, considering that Blue was my second favorite color. After a bit, I thought a of a new hairstyle. While playing Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, I liked to use Sonic, then I remember that back then, I was a major Sonic Fan than anything else(This was at age 3-7), so I wanted to give him a Sonic like look, but I wanted to change it a bit, so I gave two bangs to give it a cool look. Okay, the last style, came from my Manga book, where it had a picture of a guy who had Blonde hair and Blue Bangs. I thought it was cool, then I that since I thought Zero was a very cool Maverick Hunter on Megaman X4-X6, so I wanted to give him something like that.
The shoes, once again, was Sonic Addiction. I wanted it to match Jayshi, so I made it Blue instead of Red. The shoes are now somewhat a little bit from a Mage Characterm so I based it off that.
The Dragon Wings are like Yoshiken said, but also because I was a Dragon Fanatic, so I added them.
I'm changing Jayshi just a bit more now, but his history and power. I might keep the sword, but I might change it.
Basically, Jayshi's look came from Jay Tanoshi, but now I wanted to separated that. That's why I changed Jayshi's look.
I'll explain my other characters later...

Honestly, I didn't put a lot of thought into my character, Enrique. I just sort of slapped it together when I joined the forum. I've pretty much derived his personality to my own. For other characters, I decided on the personality first, then developed the physical being of it around that. I haven't much in terms of weapons, magic, etc., so I can't really say much for that. Just wondering, In Enrique your actual name? always wondered that. My first char, yoshi sage was a sort of gandalf with a sage twist. The second one, which i believe was...i think selcathy. That idea originally came to me when i made my char in the beta of SWG. Then i turned him into an unarmed fighter 'Teras Kasi' Iron fist. THe idea didn't stick for very long. The name did however. Then a second druidic version of selcathy came along. That didn't last long. I believe the next char was Blaze. This was a while i had got hooked on the Amber saga. He was similiar to Corwin. The shortest used char was...can't remember the name. Arch something. This when i was pushing back towards Yoshi sage, getting closer to a final toon. This one was still old and fragile but more "Mage like" Thornwind stuck for a while. A shamanistic half magic half fighter. Cool, but didn't cut it. As for my latest char, Krasath, I made him up while i was writing a story. The idea originally came from Kael, the blood mage in Warcraft. I found Blood-Elves quite cool with their half elven features, and their thirst for magic. So, i made Krasath, half elf. He wasn't as fragile as the two other magicians, i like the idea. I'm always moving around though. I still have not found a perminate char i'm going to stick with. The ideas are still bending into shape. I'm quite content on the avatar, but still flaxing towards a name that means more to me.

Well, a long time ago six years exact, I wanted to make a game. After scheming about it for a while, I made the main char a guy named Isaac. Now, this character was pretty dull-lookin... but after a while, I redesigned him. Now, I'm writing a book about the same character, now known as Hero. He's changed over the years, and now, he's perfect. Can't wait till my book gets published so I can show you who he is! ;D

In ninth grade - when I first joined, I just completed my last day of it - my Spanish teacher requested that we all had "Spanish names" for the class. Since there is no Spanish equivalent of "Jason," I used "Enrique," the equivalent of my middle name, Henry. When I joined the forum, that was the first thing that popped in my head for a name.

My first character was actually just the first random thing that popped into my head that I decided to work with, though every other character proceeding afterward was inspired from a movie, game, or scene in a book from all sorts of random places. Simplistic yes, though ideal for the way I create things: Get an idea from a random spot and then work off that.

This is actually a very intriguing thread there Jay, and also an interesting question to ask anyone of the likes and such. The creations of characters is something that rolls around every now and then, a huge surplux of what our minds change about as we grow. Sometimes it's more than enlightening to get a percieved vision of why some are the way they are, it usually has a connection to that of where we come from. Usually our enjoyments seem to be circled on the growth of things in a natural sense; at times as well it to can become that of a coincedence. That of a matter which happens once yet sticks to your skin for times that you can not come to surely speak of. It can be that of an accident, to really any event that might make its root in the order that you thrive. Even if our characters may not effect us personally, it's that which stems into our likes and dislikes; everyone builds their alter-ego out of that in which they hope to be. It's like having a dream, but more of an illusion that you can construct with your toe hands from tip to the toe, never missing a beat. It might be that you love the fandom and wish to see yourself as that creature, or it could be in fact that maybe you just happened to stumble upon some kind of adoration in that field. Everything is a hazy factor to add onto the play that takes place and occurs; no one can pin point why these events ensue, but they do for reasons that make us who we become here.
The creation of Contention was in fact something that really happened over a long set of time. As many here have said, it began with that of a tale which was strung far back in the past. Usually among the first moments we enter the online type of world, and from then on out it began to picture itself in a new type of light. As anyone when coming to the internet, there are things to learn. Eventually, you might come to stumble upon people with their diffrent facets and scenarios. However, this also adds to the fact that many people change their characters throughout life. Contention has always been one character out of any set from a time of five years, yet he did not come into any view until given something by the likes of Joshi. His name is likely familiar due to the fact he to was a Mod at this forum for many years, and if it wasn't for his hand in the shaping of the creature, it would never have come to be. Before that though, things were more milky; out of focus and not really situated in the seat of turning into something with reptillian feels and works upon it. Everything must take place to bring forth and event, and such was worked in a familiar pattern.
The first few trips to the online world were spent in that of a Matrix Forum; such boards are not built around having a diffrent persona. The only neccessary function there was meant upon having a name that suited yourself. Along that time, there was this strange love for the "Animatrix"; in which through one episode the name of B166ER is mentioned (This name is not a representation of Bigger, it is indeed B-One-Six-Six-E-R). Such a creature happened to be an infamous robot in the series who led to the downfall of humanity. This was the first name that was ever given and ever used, merely due to its dark underside and personality. As days went on though, like many new members to the online world, it was constantly changed. However, the changes were not whole only minor; take for example the shift from B166ER to B166ERRoboticFiend. It seems to be the curse of any "n00b", to change your given name at least four times a week without any true cause but to feel better about it yourself. As things go on you might come to understand that staying to one title makes it easier for others to know and understand who you are. Regardless of that though, this statement was stapled to myself for a long time, until a certain "game" came along to change the boundaries once more.
This "Game" just happened to be American Mcgee's Alice, in which the "Cat" Cheshire is placed. Now, for a short summary the story itself is situated on the fact that Alice loses her parents in a fire; after which she goes insane and must rescue herself from her nightmares. The Kitty in this piece was visually disturbing in nearly every sense. His eyes were riddled with tattoos, as well as his body; more or less every single square inch of this character was covered in some grim reminder of how broken he really was. This happened to cause some Intrigument, and eventually the name Cheshire started to become a slab that could not be lost. Although, since the name Cheshire was so highly used in boards the name was quickly changed to DarkCheshire. Yet, it really proved no purpose since many people never really had the chance to play through American Mcgee's Alice, nor does anyone really care about such as well. So as well, this to was around for a bit of time before moving on once more into something diffrent, another change.
This cultivation occured around the time that writing was still a fresh thing. Within this new craze, a story was created called, "Physe of Contention"; which in Latin meant something like Soul of War. However, this is unknown because the words were merely looked up through some type of Thesarus. The story itself was focused on the game "Deus Ex", so in reality it was nothing more but Fan-Fiction. Besides all that though, after awhile the name Contention started to sound a bit diffrent. It was something that no one used or really cared to, likely due to the fact that it's meaning was along the lines of, "Conflict between two parties". Usually holding a name with a value usually means you have that same personality or at least should. It's hard to find someone who would name themselves, "I'majerk" or "Womenaremything"; usually two-sided names are rare, one reason why Contention was something that had never been heard before. Actually, the name itself is not a good idea at the least. So that was actually the last step to the journey in actually finding a name that might have mattered for some type of reason; the rest of it was putting some type of persona together.
Shortly said that through time a certain feeling was given to the game of "Blinx the Time Sweeper". Some of you might recall that at some moments there was a member here known as Blinx2000, who left for reasons that still remain unknown. She was the owner of her own fanboard for the game in which her name was made after, as well her boyfriend at the time (Joshi) attended this forum very happily. Both of them had personas, and this was the first time one actually became introduced to the "furry" and "anthropomorphic" fandoms. Recalling, this was likely around the year 2004 or near the end of such. Well anyway, after meeting Joshi it was always sort of awesome how he had this Yoshi character and a story to go along with it. He would speak of these tales of YATE, in which he wrote for the Yoshi's Corner at least three years ago. Back when this place was still starting unroll and open up more, when it was totally united by friends (Oh how times change?). It was he who wondered why myself was not found carrying around a diffrent "Alter-ego"; so for him one was made up, and this is how Contention came to be.
At that time, one was head-over-heels for the game known as Halo. That will likely get a lot of tongues stuck out there; such makes sense though, the game was to over adressed and given so much popularity for nothing. However, Contention was formed after the illusion of a Covenant Jackal; some attempts were given to draw the thing, but they always failed horribly. It was indeed Joshi who was the first to actually hand out an image of the creature, and since that time it has been himself who has made it grow in stages. If one can remember correctly, another member of Blinx's board gave Contention his size as well; it was something that happened to be around seven or eight feet tall, if not nine. In actuality, one never really produced anything for Contention; all of it was taken out of these hands before it could be done, the true credit for such goes to Joshi and how he happened to mold it together on his own there.

I used to be completely obsessed with Yoshis, but I liked Yellow Yoshi the best. I still like yellow as a color... Green just seemed so common to me. Then I discovered Yoshi's Corner, and got to join. I was originally going to be the extremely cheesy name of "Yosheegirl", but my dad looked at me and said, "Why not just be Yoshee?" ...Yep. Then I was looking at those nifty avatars we used to have, and saw that adorable Tennis one, and decided to be green. Yay. I've had yellow spikes from the start, though >_> YELLOW.

I never really put much thought into my character, I just made him a lot like myself in terms of personality. I made him red because red represents youth, energy and vitality, which I feel is a good description of me (Plus I just like the color red LEVEL UP ! !). He's got the black hat because red and black make a good combination, and because I'm almost always wearing a hat in real life. The boxing gloves weren't originally there, because I had some crazy idea before that about being a "Demon yoshi" which I soon realized was really, really dumb. After that breakthrough, I added the red boxing gloves which really only come out in RPs and stuff.
So yeah, he was kind of just thrown together as time went by. Red yoshi, cap, sometimes gloves, friendly, and wants as few enemies as possible.

Ah, lots of changes for me over the years. I started at once when I found this board, feeling I needed a Yoshi character, I created one right away: The orange Yoshi named Hiroshi.
After quickly making a jerk of myself and fleeing in shame, I ditched Hiroshi as my avatar, and decided to go back to my roots. A fox character I've had for...yeesh, I have no idea how long, named Lupus, was used. He originally came about when I got into RPing on AIM, and his name was (sadly) originally 'AJ Kitsune'. This changed at one point to 'Drew Kitsune', still based off of me. At this point, before I saw this forum ever existed, I decided to change things for the sake of originality. I re-dubbed him Lupus, making fun of the fact that though he was, indeed, a fox, his name meant 'wolf'. I threw together a fanstory-ish background of how he is a very distant relative to the hero of the Star Fox games, Fox McCloud. Lupus still exists to this day, you could say he kept me sane at one point, when I would have gone mad without something to think about.
Eventually I wanted a change, I loved dragons, and I was getting back into Pokemon, and remembering my love of Charizard, and thus came out the first form of Gar: A Dragozard named...Drago. After a little bit, I decided to drop the charizard side, and created a new character. A dragon created with one purpose; to reprisent me as closely as possible. And thusly Gar was born. Originally from a discussion with Teh on a name, he jokingly suggested Garbage after I mentioned I liked the name Garr. Then Garby, then I finally decided to go with Gar. Teh gets credit for the last name, as I was stumped, and mentioned we could go with Yulong. Which means "Jade Dragon" in Mandarin. I loved it, and Gar Yulong was born that day. He shares very strong ties with my offline self. Including the fact that the outfit he commonly wears is also my favorite outfit. He wears the same glasses as I do, is the same age, has the same height, and our eyes are even the same color. As for his weapons and abilities, those are still developing.
