Yes, Phantasy Star Online... this game has been mentioned before... basically, a futuristic MMORPG that was on the GameCube, Xbox, and PS2... It was better than certain MMORPGs in the manner that it could be played alone, with people, for ten hours, or for 5 minutes -- you didn't have to wait a long time to accomplish anything, as FFXI is. Very addictive gameplay, supremely customizable characters, pretty decent graphics. Also, conveniently, you can pick any name, even if someone else has it. But the point is that now, a Beta for the new PC version is available for download -- and you get a month of free play. Saved characters are now remote, on the Sega Servers -- so they can't be hacked, or deleted through glitches. And on this PC version, tons of stuff has been added -- and since it's now on a PC, a lot more flexibility exists for it in terms of quests and missions. So, now... www.psobb.com Go there for the 500mb download, if you think your computer is up to the challenge. Pretty decent PC required, but it's a very good game -- and the free month due to Beta test can give all you people who whine about monthly payments a chance to see that the game's really worth it. I would highly reccomend -- a friend recently bought it for the Gamecube, and we haven't stopped playing it since -- now that this PC version exists, we might be able to play together online, realistically, without fear of unmoderated and corrupt servers that are never updated. (Which was how the GameCube servers operated.)

I have it on download queue. I've been meaning to check out how Phantasy star online played because I've heard so much of the DC version. People still play it online through DC's, that surprised me because the DC uses a 28.8kbps dialup connection.
I'll certainly be trying this out. If it does turn out to be good, I'll pay the subscription.

Wow, so somebody else on here plays it I downloaded it a few days ago, but still haven't had a lot of time to get on it... Still, from the small part I did play I liked it

I've just been trying to play it. I have no idea what I'm meant to be doing. The help say's something about an information counter. I saw that, went up to it, said 'hey there' and nothing happened. I teleported to other blocks, which have different things. Still, the same thing. Am I missing something stupendously obvious?

As far as I can remember you need to talk to the NPC on the desk, and register a party, then that should let you into the game proper.
After thats sorted, you should warp into the Hub area, where you can do guild quests, the singleplayer story, or just go to the surface and level grind for a while.

Yeah, talk to the person at the desk form the BLock you start in -- go to Organize Party, create/join, and then enter however you see fit. From there you enter the playable area of Pioneer II, which allows you to indulge in the plot or gameplay.

Ahh yeah, I completed the first mission. I also got killed (I think) while doing it. Shows I've never played phantasy star online before. I'll start though. It's rather fun. I've got a friend into it too.
I hope more of us join in.

Although unfortunately, my computer is garbage and since it has no video card of any nature whatsoever, the game fails to function. However, a friend may give me his old one, which would be sexy.
Regardless, I'm getting this game when I can, even if I have to pay for it later when I get a new PC.

Hehe, yes. There's a few things you might want to know when making a character, though:
Hunters are the Melees, and they generally do the most damage. However, it's generally single-target damage, and they get hit the easiest because of. Easy class to be.
Rangers do relatively lower damage than the other two, but have the highest accuracy, and do it form a very long range. Rarely ever get hit. Intermediate class to be.
Forces do quite a hefty chunk of damage, oftentimes to multiple targets, but at the cost of TP. Advanced class to be.
I'm a force, hehe... Wilburforce the FOnewm. Double-scoop ice cream And yes, Wilburforce is a real name.

I must say after a good few days playing it.... solid.... It's a very good game and I encourage other people to give it a try before it becomes a 'payed for' service.
To be honest, I think I may even go for subscription.

I played PSO Episode 1&2 a decent amount on my NGC, Hunter lvl 44, nothing extraordinary, but I know the aspect of the game well enough, and I'm currently 21% downloaded on this one here, so I might see a few of you on there, eh?

I've downloaded it, and i'm pleased that i did! I've been playing PSO 1&2 for ages now and i, along with YW, know the game more or less inside out, currently a lv90 HUmar, but for this, i've decided to go for a RAmar this time...'tis real fun!
Want a ranger? I'm your man for this one! XD catch me on there!

Rangers are boring though. They stand a good length from where the real action is happening and sit there with full HP and everything while I have a sword, in the think of it, and healing myself every 20 seconds or just missing the use of healing, and have to walk all the way back because I died.
Still, we had a good game last night, and when we sent an unsuspecting lv 1-er into boss room in the mines. Died within seconds. Poor strangie.

True...but its a change for me. I'm always a Hunter, and being a Ranger is different. Sure, i get to stand back and take it easy, but i'm providing support for you, watching your back etc.
I am training a Hunter, but i'm just using a Ranger for now.

I usually end up using Rangers, seeing as I don't enjoy having my face punched off by Gilchics in the Mines Still though, I'm a lot better as a Hunter than a Force... I'll keep my Mechguns Man I need to be here when people start games

Yes, the Gilchic's are quite a pain (Quite literally). I'm online in PSO all the time and I just wait for people who know of my party and password to join. I tend to hang around Coeus - Block 7. Look for a party called 'Pink' and the password will be 'pfy'sparty'.
Infact, I need help now. I need one person to help me open a door. Anyone online now that plays pso?
