(Thanks to all who signed up. Anyone who still wishes to join may do so by reading and posting in the Sign Up topic. I only ask that you follow the standard of RPing as outlined in the YC Community College for Roleplaying, stickied at the top of this section.)
It's a beautiful sunny day, and everyone arriving at the fairgrounds, wether by ferry, or through the jungle, or the simple path leading through the set of huts that could be called Yoshi Village if you felt like it, is greeted by a large banner claiming "Welcome!" with a smiling Yoshi on either side. It is said the heroic lad himself helped paint this banner, and perhaps he did. Right below the banner is the festival's central focus; a large buffet table laden with fruits, fruit juices, and all kinds of snacks, all of them fruit-based in one way or another.
Those coming off of the ferry can find a midway to their left, filled with all sorts of fun, free games dedicated to the fine art of wasting time and winning prizes. To the right is a whole cleared out section where various Yoshies are preforming for their peers, juggling, telling stories, dancing, playing music, all sorts of things. The sun shines happily overhead, and Yoshies, a few Toads, even a Koopa Troopa or two can be seen bustling all about, very few of them without a smile on their face. Directly opposite the ferry is a large makeshift tent with a clumsily made sign reading "Hotel".
Welcome to the Annual Fruit Festival.

This area was breezier, the mud turned to sand, and the thick vegetation grew thinner. Blood trudged though the final few yards of forest and saw a small stretch of ocean. Or at least, at first glance that was what it seemed to be.
Blood took his first step onto the beach and looked to the right. He gasped, there was a village! Huts, fellow yoshis, even creatures he had never seen before in all his years of roaming about the island. He curiously walked toward it, he was a bit hungry, and maybe this place would have something for him to eat.
He stopped and looked at a large banner that said, "Welcome!" in very large letters in front of the village. "I guess nobody would dare to throw me out of here, then." Blood turned his walk into a slow jog through the village, he looked all around at the huts, trying to find a restaurant of some sort, the whole place couldn't possibly be just huts.
Finally he stopped at a huge tent that was obviously not put up with great care, and a sign that looked even less welcoming. It said simply, "Hotel". The place looked creepy, but Blood saw no harm in checking it out. He ran in and looked around. There was a small reception desk with a pink yoshi sitting behind it, she was helping a few people who were checking in, apparently, and stopping occassionally to type something in on her computer.
Blood shrugged, maybe this place would have food. After the people who the receptionist were dealing with left to see their beds, he walked up and talked to her. Without a word, the receptionist gave him a key, smiled, and went back to her work. The key had something carved in on it.
"HUT 372 OUTDOOR ROOM. NON-SMOKING."
This gave Blood a decent idea of what he was looking for. He walked through the hotel lobby and out the back exit, which lead to an orderly section of huts on the left and right sides, as if it were the hallway of an indoor hotel. The sign directed him to his room, and after a short walk, he found it. A quaint little hut, with a straw roof, wooden steps leading up to another wooden platform that held the hut itself atop it. The hut had a metal knob for the key, because wood just wouldn't work as well. Blood turned the key and opened the door, inside was a small bed, just large enough for a yoshi, a window with an ocean view, a small nightstand with a lamp on top.
"So...this is home for now." Blood walked out of the hut and locked the door again, storing the key in his hat. He was still hungry and had to find food. With a deep sigh, he walked back to the village.

As Twi left the ferry he looked around seeing all manner of yoshis going towards the same place. It looked to Twi like a festival of sorts, he just looked at it, a lot of noise and everyone seemed happy. He walked towards it, hoping to find a place to stay whilsts he was here, he didn't feel like another outdoor sleep again. Walking under the banner that said "Welcome" he came to a crudly put up tent with an even cruder sign saying "Hotel". As he walked in he could see a family talking to a pink yoshi, and behind them a red yoshi with a hat. He waited in the line untill it was his turn, he reached the receptionist who gave him a key and pointed in the direction of where the key opened with a smile.
Twi reached his hut, a small, quaint place. He walked in, there was a bed, a chest of drawers and in another room a bathroom. Out the back was a group cooking area. After looking round, he put his key behind his cape and, before leaving, made sure his cape covered his claw, he wanted no-one to see.
He went outside into a large area with stalls and games and other things. He walked over to a stall selling fruit and fruit drinks and other things. He walked up the the yoshi behind the counter, he seemed a nice person, greeted Twi with a smile. Twi looked around, and pointed to a watermelon on the table. The stall keeper gave it to him, and Twi paid the 6 coin charge and started to eat it, holding his cape still. He looked around, and started to make his way towards the bigger crowd.

The first place Strangie hit was the hotel, to secure himself a room for the night. While sleeping outside in the wilderness was fun, this was a vacation, and he figured he might as well take advantage of the opportunity to sleep in a warm bed in a cozy room.
He entered the hotel, stepping in line behind a red Yoshi with a hat and some creepy-looking black Yoshi with purple hair and a cape. "Looks like this place attracted all kinds of characters..." Strangie thought to himself as he eventually got to take his turn at the front desk, getting a room key and checking out his hotel room before getting situated.
He sorted through his backpack, pulling out sets of clothes he had brought with him - most of them were simply different colors of his current outfit with matching visors - and stored them away in the dressers that were provided.
After sorting out his things and getting his hotel room all set up, he put his room key in one of the extra pockets on his pants, headed out and locked up, and went back to the outside world.
He stepped outside with a grin on his face and rubbed his hands together. "Okay, now, let's see... what shall I do first..." he said to himself. He made his way to a fruit stand, grabbed an apple and paid an appropriate amount of coins, then took a big bite out of it. "Mmm... this is the good life."

I finished putting up the tablecloths with the other Yoshis that were setting up the party for today and hurried to the hotel. Why walk for half an hour to get here every day when I can walk two minutes to a hotel? I reached the hotel reception tent safely enough, and noticed how crudely it was set up. Eh, no one's going to care about the tent as long as the party's good, I reasoned. I fell into step behind what I recognized as an Ice Climber and got a key for a hut. I dumped my extra party supplies that were for tomorrow off under my bed and stuck the key under my saddle. Quickly hopping out of my room and making sure the door was shut, I meandered my way over to a table of bananas. I paid my coins and grabbed a bunch of them. Might as well check out who else is here.

Well,my wings were ready to break off and/or explode, but I had finally arrived.Man,I had expected it to be pretty colorful, but this was crazy! While pondering whether or not that someone was out to give me a seizure with this festival,I decided to change my direction to an incredibly crappy-lookin' hotel.Places that look like that are usually places I can't trust.Come to think of it,there are a lot of things I can't trust on an island full of strangers.Oh well.Better get into that hotel before extreme paranoia set in.
So,to my surprise, the chick running the desk actually looks safe AND trustworthy.Sounds like my kind of place. As long as there were locks on these hotel rooms,I'd be fine. So,I hopped to it ordering my room, and, another surprise,my key didn't look too bad either. And neither did these hotel rooms. The little huts were pretty cool, but I still wish I brought something to do.I'm sort of lazy,so I probably won't be getting out very much. But you have to on the first day of your stay. It's like,a rule...or something. As of now,I sort of wanted to play some sort of carnival game.Better take a walk first.Maybe I'll find someone I know.

Doshi pulled in and got off his bike, noticing he was at the fair. putting his bike in a bikerack infront of the hotel, Doshi immediatly went to a stand were fruit was being sold. indulging himself with three large melons, Doshi found a shadey area and opened his bookbag. Taking a pencil and paper out, he started to write, taking a break every so often to chew his fruit and look around.

As Toshi eats his last apple, he begins to hum to a tune, walking in rhythm to that tune, clicking his fingers and patting his thigh. He reaches his destination, walking past the Hotel which has quite a queue, not needing to book in to a room as he's a local Yoshi. He heads deeper into the area, until he is about center amongst all the festival facilities, having a wander around, thinking what he could do now he has arrived here. This is when he eyes the apples at the buffet "Hrhrhrhr, i think i'll go over here and see my best friends". He chuckles and he wanders over to the buffet...

Post by Enrique on Jul 31, 2006 13:57:04 GMT -5
Enrique walked along the roads for about forty minutes until he reached the fairgrounds, taking only another two short-sleeved shirts with him along with the long-sleeved shirt that he already had on, in case it got excessively warm like it did the year before. After arriving there, he noticed a line being formed in front of a hut with a sign reading "Hotel." He decided to join the line - because it would take another forty minutes to walk back to his house on Route 754, maybe longer after a long day of partying at the festival - behind a few other Yoshies. He waited about twenty minutes until it was his turn. The pink Yoshi on the other side of the counter smiled at him, and gave him the key to his room; the number on the key read "326."
It took Enrique ten minutes to find the hut that matched the key; he unlocked the door and walked inside. In the room was a queen-sized bed, a chest with drawers, and a small end table near the bed. On the other side of the chest was a window with a view of the ocean. Behind the chest was a wall that separated a small bathroom from the rest of the room.
He threw the two shirts that he carried with him on the bed as soon as he entered the room, then flopped on the bed to relax for a little bit. The bed was not as comfortable as his bad at home, but he had slept on more uncomfortable ones. After two minutes of resting on the bed, he vigorously jumped off the bed, and marched outside of the hotel, hoping that he could recognize somebody there.

Almost immediately after Enrique left the hotel, someone was already calling for him; he didn't recognize the voice, however. After looking around him for a little bit, he didn't notice anyone who may have been calling him; the voice seemed to have come from a bit of a distance, but likely it was muffled by the sound of the other people at the fair. He muttered in response. "Hello, whoever you may be." He tried again to locate someone who may have called him; however, the amount of people in the area was growing, and it would be difficult to find a particular person - nonetheless one whose voice he didn't recognize - in this crowd.
Enrique walked through the crowd - most of it was heading toward the hotel - to a small booth with grapes. He gave the booth clerk a few coins and bought a bundle. He munched on the grapes as he approached the area in which he just came from, hoping to find the person that had called him.

Jay went through the ocean in his boat. He looked over the horizon and saw a island. "There it is!" He couldn't help but smile as he looked. He turned off the motor as he came closer. As soon as the boat stopped, Jay immediately jumped off, landing at the shore. He stretched as he smell the tropical air. He walked under the banner that said "Welcome!" and saw this tent that said "Hotel." He went in to see a Pink Yoshi and got his key. "Room 320? Thanks." Jay said with a smile and walked off, putting the key in his pocket.
As soon as Jay went out, his stomach growled. He let out a small sigh. 'Right...I haven't ate yet...' Jay looked around to see a buffet table with fruits and grinned. He saw a red apple and paid what it was worth. He took a bite and chewed. He was about to take another bite and saw another human nearby. He swallowed and said, "Hey."

(Strangie's only 5 feet high, you'll probably note this when you see him. ) Strangie took another bite of his apple, content with himself, but he looked up when someone said, "Hey", to him. He turned to the voice, surprised to find another human (Jay). "Hey there!" he replied, taking another bite of his apple. "Mmm... fancy seeing another human around here, eh? I thought I'd be the only one here..." He took a quick glance around, seeing if there were any other humans, and, upon not seeing any, turned back to his new acquaintance, bringing his free hand up and adjusting his visor a little. "So what's your name there, pal?"

Gem rushed out of the door of her house, running swiftly throught the crowd. She says hi to some yoshies she knew and, without paying attention bumped into a juggler, an orange yoshi, causing a bunch of bowling pins crashing down. A few yoshies laughed as the orange one helped her. "Heh heh... sorry." Gem picked up the pins and gave it back to the orange yoshi. "It's okay, it's the festival anyway," the orange yoshi replied. Gem nodded and then headed to the snack bar. "One melon please." She asked. He handed over a small melon. "Thankyou." Gem said happily and turned around. The color yellow covered her body and green stripes went down her spine.

Twi stood with his watermelon in his hand which was almost half eaten, he looked around and saw all manner of racees, even two humans which he found strange, but never the less he continued walking around, quite slowly to take in his surroundings, nothing seemed to interest him, nothing would really help, sure food was ok, but apart from that, nothing else. He decided it'd be best to blend in, it may help him later to get a few people who may know the island. But out of all the people there, he didn't know who to meet, didn't know who was a local. He decided to wander over to the buffet, maybe someone will say hello to him, if they weren't scared of his pupil-less purple eyes and the fact he didn't smile.

Boomeister made his way past several huts and the large welcome banner. He wasn't looking for anything in particular, just taking a look around the place. There were some performers over on a small stage surrounded by several onlookers; Boo decided that later he might have to trip them up a little, just for fun. He glanced around at the crowd that seemed to be everywhere: they were talking, eating, and generally enjoying themselves...except for a few who had spotted him and were visibly nervous at the sight of a ghost. He decided to hang out by the buffet table nearby, maybe have something to eat or chat it up with someone.

Doshi stopped at a booth and started to throw rings at bottles to win prizes. Three Mario's, a Bowser, Five Yoshis, and three Peachs later(Luigi was absent, somthing that Doshi intended to rectifi when he took over the world), Doshi threw his prizes in the air and ran away. He loved doing that.

Post by Moot on Jul 31, 2006 18:25:31 GMT -5
After wandering around aimlessly for a few minutes checking the place out, Moot eventually came across what seemed to be a buffet table, almost packed with people, save a few empty spaces where the crowd had yet to fill.
Upon closer inspection, Moot noticed a few interesting characters clustered around, namely what appeared to be a ghost of some description, the odd human, and a black Yoshi wearing a cape finishing off an entire melon singlehandedly. "Pffft, I've seen weirder types."
After fishing around for some loose change, he handed over some cash for a bunch of bananas from an attendant with a grin that seemed permanently etched into his face. Moot joked "So I guess its out of the question to order a beefburger, then?" He was met with a stony silence and a raised eyebrow, not sure if the response was to his terrible joke or the fact that the attendant had never served a floating customer before. "...Guess not." Moot de-materialised the fruit, saving it for later. ((note this is a skill that all Moots possess anyway, its not something I didn't mention in signups <_>))
Drifting over the where the crowd was thickest, Moot noticed something else strange about the caped Yoshi. Not least the fact he was wearing a cape in tropical weather, but rather that he was lacking pupils of any description. "...Huh. So I guess I do have something common with these guys after all."

I edged my way over to the buffet. Most of the partygoers that weren't from the island came here for the excellent food, so I bet that the visitors with the most interesting stories would be there. I opened a banana and bit into it while eyeing a Boo with a blue hat. Now those were the ones that you didn't see every day. My gaze shifted to an odd, black floating creature near a creepy Yoshi with purple hair. I didn't see what his right arm looked like; he kept it tucked under a cape. I made sure I looked inconspicuous and grabbed a smoothie, dropping a few coins onto the counter and sipping it while I eavesdropped on their conversation. They didn't seem to be saying anything to each other... maybe they were whispering. I scooted closer.
